Description

The next step in grief in this Part III of our election series is depression, which may feel worse today because it’s a holiday in pandemic, and it doesn’t look like what we’re used to. With social distancing protocols, many lives lost to this disease, and a third surge with no end in sight, we could dive right into depression, the next stage of grief, but today we choose gratitude. It’s not one of the stages of grief, so here we go replacing it! December will be our mental health series, so stay tuned for that.We have to acknowledge the role of colonialism and white supremacy in the origin story of this holiday, and how gratitude isn’t a holiday sentiment: it’s daily Muslim practice. Let’s call the bleaching of American history what it is and share what we still hold onto of ourselves despite it. Reflect on Surah Rahman and the joys, big and small, of 2020. Links:1)   How to support your teens through COVID-19: https://www.healthychildren.org/English/health-issues/conditions/COVID-19/Pages/Signs-your-Teen-May-Need-More-Support.aspx2)   All eyes on GA: Black Voters Matter: https://blackvotersmatterfund.org/3)   CAIR-CA report on Islamaphobia on campus: bit.ly/cairca-campus-climate-20204)   CAIR action on apps spying on Muslims: https://www.votervoice.net/CAIR/campaigns/78170/respond5)   The FYI toolkit on dealing with election stress: https://www.thefyi.org/toolkits/election-debrief-toolkit/ 6)   The FYI toolkit on wellbeing under COVID-19: https://www.thefyi.org/toolkits/coronavirus/ 7)   CDC study on COVID-19 impact on Native Americans: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6934e1.htm?s_cid=mm6934e1_w 8)   Website: https://mommyingwhilemuslim.com/9)   Facebook: Mommying While Muslim page and Mommyingwhilemuslim group10)                  IG: @mommyingwhilemuslimpodcast11)                  Twitter: @MWMpodcasting Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/mommyingwhilemuslimpodcast)

Mommying While Muslim is a one of a kind podcast where two American born and bred Muslim moms share their experiences to raise second generation kids. Having experienced both pre and post 9/11 America, they're acutely aware of the unique challenges their families face on top of the regular messes that all moms share. Mommying While Muslim is a space to take back their stories, and tell those no one will air on the news or portray fully or fairly in the media.Zaiba Hasan and Uzma Jafri are moms first, careerwomen second, and global citizens at heart. They meet taboo topics head on because they weren't allowed to do it growing up, not at home or at school and work. They aim to better their immediate households, communities, and their momsisterhood the world over by telling the truths sometimes people don't want to face or to hear. Not everyone has the privileges they have, and they are eager to learn more than they are to share their own experiences. Always looking to give back, they find women and families who need a mic because no one needs a voice; they just need an opportunity to speak. Besides tough social issues, they also tackle political ones because when laws affect their kids, they're coming for them as well as the ones who make them! There's no lane that doesn't get taken here.Along the way, they recruit momallies for Muslim Americans who have been inordinately targeted for the last 20 years. True moms know that ALL our children deserve to be safe, loved, and happy, and we bust every yellow brick on the Islamaphobic road to make sure they all are. If you like good trouble, this one's for you!
