Whilst conducting research for my book, Smart Single Muslima, I’ve spoken to a number of women who followed a career path and completed their education before considering marriage. But they have hit a brick wall: they can't find a compatible Muslim man who fits their criteria of a suitable husband. Naturally, men also have their own criteria and it seems like both genders are looking at different checklists.
So we have an elephant in the room and very few Muslims want to talk about it. A growing number of single Muslimas are finding it difficult to get married. They are unhappy with the confusing expectations dictated to them by western liberals and unislamic eastern culture. For some, a consuming sense of hopelessness overcomes them as they face the real possibility of never getting married.
