Overview: Solid evidence shows that adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) correlate with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in women. Evidence is also becoming clearer that lactation and breastfeeding may have CV protective benefits as well. Social determinants of health play a significant role in these diseases; facts support that Black, Hispanic and Asian American women suffer from worse pregnancy outcomes than White American women. Join us while we discuss the recent American Heart Association (AHA) guideline update regarding the association of increased risk of CVD and metabolic disease with APOs and what can be done to reduce these risks.
