This way of thinking came as the trend of snapchat 10-second disappearing stories emerged, which inspired TikTok and Instagram to lead the movement of short-form content…
The problem with this thinking was if you looked at things from a macro level, those same “kids” that we believed had a short attention span were spending more time on apps, longer watching concurrent youtube videos, and like their fellow millennials, love binge watching tv shows for hours.
The truth is, thanks to increased options and endless data at their fingertips it wasn’t really about a short attention span instead, they had no time for crappy content and had no problem code-switching between content and different media formats.
Fast forward to Web 3.0, and marketers are once again making the mistake of labeling the web 3.0 community has to have a “short attention span,” yet many spend hours listening or hosting twitter spaces and log more time than they’ll admit on discord and researching different traits within an NFT collection.
But let’s make one thing clear just because the Web 3.0 community is proving daily that they don’t have short attention, let's not mistake that for believing it’s easy to capture their attention.
In this episode, I break down this myth and give examples and reasons for why our Web 3.0 strategy must include different types of content and live conversations to not only capture the web 3.0 communities attention but to maintain it as projects scale and grow over time.
