Description
Keeping up with the theme of returning legends on DCR this week Eugene and Matt are joined by Katie Wright. For those of you perhaps unfamiliar, Katie was the first woman in the world to win a Last Person Standing event at the inaugural Riverhead Relaps in 2019. From there Katie found herself at Big’s Backyard where she was one of the final four, romping to a massive 50 yards, or 332.8km. Last year, Katie won the 2020 Tarawera 100 mile race in ding-dong fashion ahead of Fiona Hayvice (and, oh yeah, Katie snatched second in 2019 behind Camille Herron). This time, heading to Big’s Backyard had a different feel to it, having been sidelined with a netball injury for most of the year and achieving a peak running week total of 35km. We speak to Katie about her year, her return to Big’s, how to Sous Vide Tofu in an MIQ kettle, and the strangeness of travel amidst a pandemic. We’ve got races (YES!) A Greatest Run Ever, and Eugene and Jaime and Andrew did a thing . Enjoy!
