On July 13, 2018, Paul and Stephanie Miller were finishing up their vacation in southern California and preparing to drive to Las Vegas to catch their flight home to Ontario. That morning, Paul told Stephanie he wanted to get in one last quick hike. Stephanie decided to stay behind and finish packing up their belongings while Paul headed off to the Joshua Tree National Park for a short hike on the the 49 Palms Oasis Trail. Paul was spotted on the trail but he never made it back to their motel room. In the hours after he went missing, a massive search ensued.
