An ozer is an "assistant," but could also mean "he’s helping" - a verb in the present tense. How are you supposed to know which one it is? Host Guy Sharett teaches us how to work it out from the context, and he explains what initials religious people jot on every piece of paper they write on.

Today I’d like to tell you that I led a tour in French on Saturday with a few new immigrants from France. It was really fun. And it’s amazing to see how, time and again, I meet people who went through traumas with Hebrew teachers, and with language teachers in general, not only with Hebrew. In many cases it’s related to immigration - parents who want a connection to the old homeland of the family, and send the kids to a place where they’ll teach them language, culture and religion. Like many kids, they suffer there because they want to fit in in the new country and because often the teachers are not really enthusiastic about teaching language, and in the case of Hebrew, there are rabbis at Talmud Torah schools in New York who teach Hebrew with a Yiddish accent and not contemporary Israeli slang like we learn here.
