Description
1st Half: The Neuroscience of App Addiction 2nd Half: Artificial Intelligence from a Neuroscience Perspective (at 24:45) Apps are designed to grab us and keep us hooked as long as possible, as often as possible. Addictive traits built into the apps manipulate us at a primal biological level -- creating a stimulus/response pattern that can re-program our behaviors over time. The increasing role of Artificial Intelligence will inevitably hand-off some of this addictive-design work, setting up a scenario where we shift from people programming machines, to machines programming humans. Our guest today is Ramsay Brown. Ramsay is a neuroscientist, working at the intersection of the human mind, software design, and artificial intelligence. Ramsay has degrees from USC in Neuroscience and Neuroinformatics, working on projects such as a “Google Maps” for the brain, and new forms of human-mind communication with machines. He’s now the co-founder of Dopamine Labs, a company that uses AI and Neuroscience to increase the addictiveness of apps that reinforce good habits, and to break app addiction where we find it harmful.
