Description

SERMON DESCRIPTION
We all live with certain assumptions about what is true that we later discover is not true. When the premise of one’s religion or life or marriage or anything is a lie, it effects everything else that flows from that original untruth. Interestingly, a person, church or situation can have complete integrity within the context of a foundational error. However, such integrity is based on a fundamental mistruth. For example, if a person believes about himself, “I am dumb,” this shapes his reality profoundly even if it is not true. If a person believes, “the poor will always be with us” or “people who suffer deserve it” or “we create our own reality” then those core ideas will influence our decisions and lives whether they are true or not. In this way, we are all living in a trance of some sort. When the person who thought he was dumb, realizes it’s not true, it is as if a trance or spell has been broken. It is the same with false religious beliefs and many other aspects of our incredibly complex and amazing lives.
