Description

This short session is for those students who say, "I don't want to and you can't make me."  Guess what?  When a child says that they are right.  Short of picking them up and carrying them somewhere (which I don't recommend) you can't make a child do something.  We have to manipulate the environment to make them want to do the desired task.  How do we do that?  Well, one way is to use Madeline Hunter's 7 step lesson plans; especially using the anticipatory set which hooks kids into wanting to know more.

Another technique is using the KWHL chart.  What do they Know.  What do they Want to know. How do they want to learn it and in the end what did they Learn.

Building a relationship with kids really helps using Ann Corwins 3 step technique for building relationships: Eye contact, talking and touching.  Research backs this one up.

Finally, a group contingency with a group reward is a sure fire way to get everyone in the classroom working together, even the most "YOGI" of all.
