Description

Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let’s get started! Alex: Hello Dr. Cabral, I’m a long time listener of your podcasts, have done DCD and sleep protocol. Thank you for educating the community, i’ve learned so much! I’m interested to find out when women should request a bone density test? Is it driven by the age (50s ?) or by having any specific symptoms? I’ve searched the podcasts but didn’t find any reference to this topic. Thank you! Donna: When I do Russian Twists, I hear an echoey sound as I inhale/exhale when I twist from side to side. It's what I would imagine someone with asthma might sound like. I also have muffled hearing in both ears, mild stuffiness, and a little pressure in my forehead. I do not experience this with rowing, sprints, weight lifting, jump rope, or anything else. Could this be a symptom to a food sensitivity? I eat friends uit, vegetables, lean meat, salmon, seeds/nuts (NO Peanuts), No dairy except Kerry Gold Butter. I eat eggs from free range chickens. Any thoughts on this? (You are welcome to resend this pacific question if needed) Nicole: Hi there! I'm not sure which test(s) I should be taking. I'm 32 year old woman, do resistance training 4-5x per week, am about 13% body fat and am considered healthy. I eat pretty high quality food 90% of the time but do have the occasional treat (gluten and sugar, some dairy). I suffer from chronic acne on my chin (prominent around my period but I typically have redness and inflammation all month long). I am SO over it. After listening to the podcast, I may have some form of hypothyroidism. I really want to optimize my health, continue to feel amazing as I age and get rid of this acne I've been battling for a few years (after I had my son 7 years ago). If you can suggest which test(s) I should consider, I'd appreciate it. Thank you! Taylor: Hi Dr. Cabral, I recently did the Candida and Bacterial Overgrowth Protocol and I stuck to it very well the whole time. I was feeling amazing around the 60 day mark. Around day 80 I started getting really bad gas pains, burping a lot in between meals as well as right after, and it has been going on constantly for 3 month. My digestive issues were never this bad and I am feeling unsure about what to do next. I also took 2 rounds of the Healthy Belly and have been on the clean gut probiotic and that hasn’t seemed to change anything. I did some food sensitivity testing as well and nothing is seeming to show up. Do you have any recommendations on what I should do? I appreciate it! Lindsay: Hello Dr. Cabral. Thanks for all you do to bring overall health and wellness to the masses! 5 years ago I was diagnosed with post-partum depression and put on Lexapro (antiidepressant). My symptoms continued, even after seeking therapy and being put on the highest dose of Lexapro and eventually adding Wellbutrin, at its highest dosage. I struggled with massive downs which left me unable to leave bed for days and frequent suicidal thoughts, terrible irritable and an inability to cope with anything, and extreme dependence on outside stimuli to find happiness. Eventually it led to a referral to a psychiatrist who diagnosed me as bi-polar. Since being put on valproic acid (depakote) my symptoms have been much more manageable. I have been able to lower my dosage of both of my anti depressants, yet I still do take them. My question is - where do you stand on the use of pharmaceuticals in mental health? Would one be able to alter their chemical makeup through diet, supplements, lifestyle? I feel so great now that I am more balanced, but would ultimately love to not rely on pharmaceuticals. I should add that I take Vitamin D, Bs, multi, Fish Oil, Calcium-Magnesium-Zinc. I recently purchased a light box to sit under in the mornings for about 30 minutes, even though I live in a decently sunny area. Alisha
