JOSEPH SMITH CLAIMED that in 1823 and angel named Moroni (moe-roe-nai) gave him a ringed book on gold plates (tablets) and that Joseph Smith translated the character on the plates into English as The Book of Mormon
. Moroni took the plates back so we can’t examine them but we are supposed to simply have faith
that they existed.
CHAPTER: Introduction
Dear Reader,
I was an active Mormon for 10 years. I converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (nicknamed by some The Mormon Church
) when I was 18. I served a mission for that Church to California. I also wrote two books which defended the Church from anti-Mormon attacks. Both books sold in Mormon bookstores for many years. Ironically, I am now an Anti-Mormon and I write Anti-Mormon books. Why? You can read my story in the back of this book. You get two books with this book: not just one only.
This book is NOT a sex book
nor an erotic book. There is no graphic language or situations in the book. This book simply exposes a relatively unknown Mormon doctrine, taught by Mormon leaders for 130 years, that God the Father is a resurrected white Anglo-Saxon male, with a penis, with many wives, with sexual desire, and that he literally begot
Jesus with Mary, one of his spirit-daughters, in the exact same way any mortal man begets a mortal son with a woman.
This doctrine was taught openly first by Brigham Young, in General Conference, in Utah, in the early 1950s. Other Mormon Church Presidents and Apostles also taught it. This doctrine was openly taught, and universally believed by Mormons (especially the males) for many generations. However, beginning in the mid to late 1970s, this doctrine was no longer mentioned by Mormon Church leaders. This doctrine, openly taught for over 100 years, was suddenly considered too sacred to talk about publicly
. Mormon males born before 1960, if they were raised in the U.S. or Canada, were taught it growing up and as young men, and, with few exceptions, they accepted it and believed it true as part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as any other part. When I was an active Mormon, many older Mormon men would tell me that this doctrine was the greatest doctrine that God ever revealed to man
and that, when they became Gods in the Celestial Kingdom, they too would create worlds, populate those worlds with their spirit-children (by their many Goddess wives), and then step down
and join
with their most beautiful spirit-daughter
and beget a Savior for that fallen world.
I was taught this doctrine:
*In Mormon Sunday School class
*In Mormon Priesthood (i.e. men’s) Class
*In Mormon Institute of Religion classes
*By other missionaries on my mission
*By the two Mormon bishops I asked about it
Mormons are taught that Heavenly Father
was once a mortal man on another planet, but that he obeyed his priesthood leaders and after he was resurrected he became a literal God in the Celestial Kingdom (highest Mormon heaven). As a God he broke up old planets, and from their dust, created Earth. While still back on His own planet, he had many
Goddess wives,and he would beget
spirit-children with them in the exact same way men and women beget on Earth. But these spirit-children needed physical bodies in order to become Gods and Goddesses themselves, and the only way for them to get physical bodies was to be born on an earth of mortal parents, grow up, live, die, and then be resurrected with that same body, but now glorified and perfect.
Heavenly Father then sent two of his spirit-children, and Adam and Eve, to each of the planets he created. Then God would give them two commands:
First Command: Multiply and replenish the Earth (have children)
Second Command: Eat of all trees of the Garden except for the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. If you eat of that tree you will surely die.
Now, Adam and Eve knew then there were in a pickle. They knew that they could not have children unless they were mortal, and they knew that the only way to become mortal was to eat of the forbidden tree. What to do? Along comes Lucifer in the form of a snake who says to Eve ‘ye will not surely die but your eyes will be open and you will be like the Gods’ so Eve bit into a fig, and he eyes were opened. Then she gave Adam and he bit, and his eyes were opened. Now they were mortal. So, Heavenly Father sees that Adam and Eve obeyed the First Command (multiply) but disobeyed his Second Command (don’t eat of the forbidden tree). So, God sends Cherubim with flaming sword to cast Adam and Eve out of the Garden (which Mormons were taught was in Jackson County Missouri). Why? Because they disobeyed his Second Command (don’t eat) because they knew that they had to do that in order to obey God’s First Command (multiply).
Yes...most Mormons really believe that.
In other words, God gave Adam and Eve two opposite Commands. They could not obey the First without violating the Second. But of course God know all this would happen. And, somehow, Lucifer keeps appearing in Garden of Eden as a talking snake on billions of planets: apparently not getting it
: not figuring out that God is manipulating him into doing his (God’s) own will.
In any case, Adam and Eve partake of the forbidden fruit and are become mortal (subject to death) but now capable of begetting children. God sends Cherubim with flaming sword to cast them out of the Garden. So (according to Mormon leaders) Adam and Eve gradually make their way from Jackson County, Missouri, to northwestern Missouri to a place called Adam-Ondi-Ahman (Joseph Smith said this means Adam in the Presence of God
in the Adamic language), and there they have Cain, Abel, Seth, and many other children including many daughters. Their child Cain killed Abel, and so God turns Cain into the first Negro. Then Cain marries one of his white Anglo-Saxon sisters and God changes her into the second Negro and they become the parents of the Negro race. Cain and his children were cursed with a dark skin and a denial of the priesthood in mortality. Because of this doctrine the Mormons banned blacks from their temples for 130 years, although they could still become Mormons (very few did). In 1978 the Church ended the ban, and now Africa has about two million Mormons (not even kidding you).
Later, Adam and Eve die and are buried somewhere in or near Adam-ondi-Ahman: near Farr West Missouri. Every year Mormons go there and identify every pile of rocks as Adam’s burial place (and take a rock or two home with them). The Church has bought up all the land around Adam-ondi-Ahman and created a nice garden for Mormon tourists: many thousands who visit the place very year, looking for Adam’s
