About this ebook

"You shouldn't be here, you're the Alpha King and my ma... ex-mate's uncle." I managed to say, trying to resist his touch.
He chuckled deeply, "You forgot one more thing," he said simply, brushing his thumb over my lower lips.
"What is that?" I whispered almost inaudibly.
"I'm also your mate." He murmured, leaning towards me.
"What do you want from me?" I asked, feeling so confused.
"Isn't it obvious?" He asked with a smirk, "I want you."

A Night with the Alpha King - C. Emmzy

    CHAPTER 95

    Aria's POV

Everywhere was dark, but not in a scary way. The darkness felt familiar, like an old friend. I glanced around trying to find any form of light, but there was none.

I could feel eyes on me from the darkness, but I didn't feel threatened.

Hello? I called into the darkness. But there was no response.

I know that you're here. I can feel your presence. I said to whatever was watching me in the darkness.

Someone cleared their throat from behind me, and I turned slowly in that direction. However, I couldn't see anything. If only this place was brighter. I thought to myself.

Immediately that thought crossed my mind, the darkness disappeared, and everywhere brightened. I instinctively squinted my eyes, but there was no need. The brightness did not affect me.

I was in a large white room. Everything was white, the walls were white, the floor was white, and the ceiling was white.

A female stood before me with brown hair and sharp green eyes. There was something familiar about her.

Who are you? I blurted out, when she said nothing. I took a step toward her, and she stepped back slightly.

You know who I am. She replied with a knowing look in her eyes.

I lifted an eyebrow at the sound of that voice. That very familiar voice. I narrowed my eyes slightly.

    Jade? I gaped in disbelief.

She smirked, In the flesh... or something close to the flesh. She replied with a shrug.

Shock coursed through me, and I glanced around with my mouth slightly open. Where... What's going on? Where am I? Am I dead? I questioned frantically as panic started rising within me.

Woah, woah, chill Jade snapped, stepping forward with her hands raised in a placating manner. You're not dead, Alright?!

I calmed down slightly, taking a deep breath to steady myself. Then, where am I? What is this place, and why are you here?

Jade gave me a mischievous smile. Well, we are in your mindscape, Aria. She replied.

My brain went blank for a moment as I tried to remember where I knew that term from.

Jade sighed, Mama Felz has told you about the mindscape. You were just not paying attention to her words, but I paid attention.

I furrowed my eyebrows at her words. When did you hear it? How did you –

She dismissed my question with a lazy wave. Doesn't matter right now. So, your mindscape is like a mental landscape that represents you. Your thoughts, your emotions, your personality. Everything about you is here.

I blinked. Then I glanced around. It was empty. So, what you're trying to tell me is that we're in my mindscape? Why is it empty? There's nothing about my emotions or personality here.

Jade nodded. Those parts are found in the inner part of your mindscape. This is just like the entrance room.

I was still confused. What am I doing here? How did I get her? You've been in my head, so I think I understand slightly what you might be doing here, but I don't know what I'm doing here.

She shrugged. It's very rare for someone to access his or her mindscape without the help of...magic. Most people die without even knowing what their mindscape looks like. The reason you're here is because something pulled you into the place abruptly.

Jade paused, and there was a moment of silence.

What is the thing? I asked, when Jade didn't continue.

What's the last thing you remember before you passed out? She asked,

I furrowed my eyebrows thoughtfully, Pain. Lots of pain in my chest, I replied. What caused the pain? I asked.

Jade looked away from me, refusing to reply. I groaned in frustration.

Oh! Come on! What is your problem?! I snapped at her. Always hiding and refusing to tell the full truth! What caused the pain?!

She bit the insides of her mouth nervously, but from the look in her eyes, she wasn't going to say anything.

I opened my mouth to yell at her, but a sound distracted me. It was a whimper. From the corner of my eyes, I could see Jade tense up. There was no use asking her. She wasn't going to tell me.

I heard the whimper again. This time it was louder, whatever was making that sound was in pain. A shiver ran down my spine.

Where are you?! I can help you! I yelled out.

The sound stopped instantly, and slowly, a small wolf appeared before me. It was curled up on the floor.

I inhaled sharply as something tugged inside me. I felt a familiar pull. I knew this wolf.

Its fur was pure white, almost like the room. Its small body shook with pain. I took a slow step forward with my heart pounding in my chest.

The wolf let out another whimper and lifted its head.

    Our eyes met.

I gasped as realization dawned on me. I knew this wolf. This was Rhea.

    My wolf.

I rushed to her side, and dropped to my knees.

Rhea, I whispered softly, rubbing my hands against her fur.

Her body flinched at first, but then she relaxed slowly.

I turned to Jade, glaring at her. Did you do this?!

Jade flinched, avoiding my gaze. No! I didn't.

Then tell me what's going on! My voice cracked in frustration. Why is Rhea like this? Why is my wolf in pain?!

Jade sighed heavily, rubbing her temples like she was dealing with a stubborn child. Aria… She muttered softly. She still looked like she wasn't going to tell me anything.

Tell me. My voice shook with anger and fear.

Jade exhaled sharply, looking at Rhea for a long moment before she finally met my eyes.

Fine, she muttered. I'll tell you everything.

My eyes widened slightly. Really? I asked. Jade had been so stubborn for a long time, that I never expected to agree.

She sighed again. It's not like I have a choice. Besides, you might still find out later.

    CHAPTER 96

    Aria's POV

Jade sat on the white floor with a sigh. Okay, where do I begin? she murmured to herself.

From the beginning, I replied, folding my arms.

She scratched her head. Well, which beginning? Mine? Or–

I interrupted her impatiently. From the beginning of everything, Jade. Stop stalling, and start speaking.

Jade rolled her eyes. "Okay, fine.

She looked away for a moment before she finally met my gaze. I've been here, in your subconscious, for a long time, Aria. Just like Rhea. But unlike her, I was… asleep.

I frowned, processing her words. What do you mean?

I don't know how I got here. I don't know why I exist inside you, she admitted. But for as long as I can remember, I've been stuck here in a deep sleep. I could hear things happening around you, but I couldn't do anything. Not until something woke me up.

What woke you up? I inquired.

Jade shook her head. I don't know, and I know that it wasn't just random—I'm sure of that. One day, I just… woke up. She hesitated before continuing. And when I did, I realized that I could forcefully take Rhea's place.

I inhaled sharply. What? When was this? When did you wake up?

Jade shrugged. Some days before I spoke to you that day Knox was tearing into Connor, and I tried to stop you from stopping him. That was a very stupid thing to do, by the way.

It was hard for me to process what she was saying.

So…so all this while, the reason that Rhea has been unresponsive, is because you've forcefully pushed her aside? And here I was thinking it was completely normal, because she normally does that.

Jade nodded in understanding. You thought it was normal for her to be completely unresponsive for months. You thought it was fine because you were an omega.

I stood there frozen, not sure how to react.

Jade continued, her voice was quieter now. When I woke up, and I realized that I could push her aside, I didn't hesitate. At first, I didn't realize what I was doing,

Jade said with a shrug. Then I did. And I didn't care.

My hands clenched into fists. You didn't care that you could be hurting Rhea?

She sighed, rolling her eyes. I wasn't hurting her in any way. She was barely speaking. What was I supposed to do? Sit back in silence forever? She scoffed. Please. I finally had control, and I wasn't about to let that go. But I didn't want to tell you, because I knew you would prefer your wolf. I knew you would freak out that I was pushing your wolf aside.

But unfortunately, you began having those chest pains because Rhea was in pain, and when it got too much, and everything went off balance, you got pulled in here abruptly.

I stared at her in shock. So, you're the one causing the pain that I've been feeling, you've been causing Rhea pain! I snapped.

Jade exhaled loudly, rolling her eyes. Oh, please. Don't be dramatic.

My fists clenched. Don't be–Jade, she's in pain!

And whose fault is that? she shot back. She's the one clinging to the past like a fool. I didn't force her to feel this way.

I opened my mouth to retort, but she cut me off.

Aria, that pain in your chest—think about it. Doesn't it feel familiar?

    I clenched my jaw, Jade–

Think, she urged. When was the last time you felt that exact pain?

I opened my mouth to argue, but the realization dawned on me before I could speak.

    Rejection.

The moment Liam rejected me, it felt like my chest was being ripped apart, like something was being crushed inside me.

My eyes widened, and I turned to look at Rhea.

    CHAPTER 97

    Aria's POV

How is she feeling that way? What's making her feel that way?

Jade's voice softened. This matter with Astrid and Knox is making her feel like she's losing Knox, like she's losing her mate all over again.

    I squeezed my eyes shut.

Your pregnancy hormones aren't helping either, Jade continued. Your emotions are all over the place, and it's making Rhea's pain worse. You're hurting, and she's feeling it ten times over, because it's reminding her too much of Liam's rejection caused by a beta's daughter, though this time it's a beta's sister.

Rhea whimpered in pain again, and my heart clenched as I looked down at her, So she's… reliving it? I whispered, my throat tight. The rejection?

Jade sighed, crossing her arms. Not exactly. But it feels the same to her. She lost one mate because of a beta's daughter, and now, she thinks she's losing another because of a beta's sister.

I swallowed hard, and my hands shook as I stroked Rhea's fur. But that's not true. Knox isn't leaving us.

Jade released a humorless laugh. Tell that to Rhea. Because right now, she sure as hell doesn't believe it.

I glared at her to remind her that she wasn't in my good books at all.

Jade sighed again. Your pregnancy hormones aren't helping either, Aria. They're amplifying everything. Your doubts, your pain, your anger—Rhea is going through all of it. It's suffocating her.

I clenched my fists. Then what do I do? How do I fix this?

Jade was silent for a moment before she finally spoke. You have to calm down.

I snapped my head up at her. Calm down? That's your solution?

Jade shrugged. It's the only way. If you don't get your emotions under control, if you don't stop feeding her pain, she'll—

    She cut herself off.

I narrowed my eyes. She'll what?

    Jade hesitated.

    Jade, I warned.

Jade exhaled sharply, pinching the bridge of her nose before she finally met my gaze. She might go inactive permanently, Aria.

My stomach dropped. What? I intoned.

Jade nodded grimly. A small wolf like Rhea cannot take much before she gives up or something like that.

A chill ran down my spine. No.

I shook my head violently. No. That's not going to happen.

Jade shrugged nonchalantly. Then fix it.

I ran a hand through my hair frantically. So, what do I do?

She paused for a moment before she replied, Meditation. Perfect way to calm down and balance your emotions.

I groaned. Oh no. Anything but meditation.

She smirked. I'm afraid that's your only option. Mama Felz tried to reach you, but again, you weren't paying attention. But fortunately for you again, I was.

I turned to Jade with a scowl. Don't think that you're off the hook. I don't accept what you're doing to my wolf, and—

She waved my words away. Don't worry, the moment she becomes active, I'll step away immediately.

    I gave a doubtful glance.

She rolled her eyes. I promise.

A strange sensation washed over me, like a force was pulling me backward. My body flickered, and started becoming transparent slowly.

Jade smirked. Looks like it's time for you to get back to the land of the living.

My eyes widened as I glanced down at my fading hands. No, not yet. I wasn't done.

I turned my head toward Rhea, and my chest tightened. I can't leave her like this.

No—wait! I reached out for her, trying to hold on to her, but my hands slipped right through. Panic surged through me.

Rhea—please, just hold on! I'll fix this, I swear!

Jade sighed, tilting her head. Rhea will be fine. Just make sure you keep your emotions in control, and she'll get better.

I wasn't convinced. Rhea didn't even lift her head. I turned to Jade.

Are you sure? I asked desperately.

Her eyes softened, and she nodded. Yes, I'm sure.

I stared at her for a moment. To be sincere, I still don't trust you, Jade.

She nodded with a smile. I know, she replied simply.

The last thing I saw was an unreadable look in her eyes before everything went bright.

Jade still wasn't telling me everything she knew. I sighed internally in exasperation.

    CHAPTER 98

    Aria's POV

I could hear Knox's voice as he discussed with Healer Felicia with a low voice, so I kept my eyes closed.

Do you think it's just because of the pregnancy? Knox asked with a concerned voice, Because it felt a whole lot more than that. Before she passed out, she was acting completely different. I have never seen her like that before.

I understand what you're trying to say, Alpha, Felicia said, "But trust me, these hormones can change someone's personality totally, especially in....unmarked
