Tales of the Abyss - Melissa Davilio
Prologue
Follow me, into the starlight, and through the primordial mist, as we journey into the depths of the abyss… who knows what we’ll find lurking within the darkness, or the shadows, or the silence.
There are so many feelings that reside within the darkest recesses of the human heart, so many thoughts that call the labyrinthine mind of mankind their home, so many sounds that can only be heard from within the emptiness of the abyss.
~ tales of sorrow ~ tales of grief ~ tales of valor ~ tales of belief ~ tales of strength ~ tales of relief ~ tales of pain ~ tales of rage ~ tales of love ~ tales of hate ~ tales of destiny ~ tales of fate ~ and ever so much more to be explored ~
Is it bliss we will find? Or the freedoms of thought and expression combined? Will the threat of terror be undermined within the confines of the undefined and the unknown? Will the seeds of understanding finally be sown?
No one knows what will be found, I suppose, yet herein, between these covers, we will discover, but a few of the infinite possibilities, as written within these previously untold
Tales of the Abyss
The Endless Garden
There is a garden so divine,
visitation requires a reservation
via a handwritten invitation
to gaze upon the magnificence
of the trellises upon which
verdant vines interwoven and interlaced
entwine as the higher they climb
where their delicate fragrance is featured
in a display of grace and elegance
near the paint chipping wrought iron gate
that marks the single entryway
through which so many have been denied.
If you ever are so inclined I hereby invite you
to partake in the bountiful beauty
of this most secret and sacred space
to glimpse the final resting place
of the sparrows that go there to die
in a flurry of exquisite eloquence
that is impossible for me to define
downy feathers fluttering in the breeze
blowing gently ever so pleasantly incessantly
to watch as a willow tree begins to sway
its wispy tendrils outstretched to embrace
the sparrows with the sweetest singing voices
any human has ever experienced
emanating from within its boughs
their final dainty lullabies impossible to replace
when their skeletons become bone fragment
embellishments within the moss bed
tucked beneath the umbrella canopy
created by that majestic willow tree.
One day if I disappear from here
I promise you that’s where I will be found, wandering among the decadence
as it surrounds me without a sound
where every flower I’ve ever come to know
grows in a series of unevenly shaped rows
where their discarded petals are disposed
left there to wither and decompose
within this endless garden of fascination
the imagination that is my mind
an elaborate labyrinthine resplendence
a serenity intrinsically infinite
in which the surreal with the sublime collides
Leaving Me Even More
The soft sound of your whispers
murmured in my ear
just smooth enough to render me to tears.
I wonder
if I were to surrender
could we ever
reconcile the pain of those lost years.
The rough touch of your fingers
barely grazing my flesh
just abrupt enough to soothe away my fears.
I wonder
if I were to surrender
would we ever
reconcile the pain of those wasted years.
The tender kisses delivered by your lips
just delicate enough for me to take a sip
of your scent empowering my hope
of your gaze showering me
