Hello there! I am Patrick, a storyteller from the heart of Kenya. I love spinning tales, and my inspiration comes from the everyday rhythms of life, the joy of storytelling, the satisfaction of working with wood, and the captivating worlds found in a good book. When I'm not lost in fiction, you can catch me creating with wood. Woodworking, to me, is a patient art, a dance with craftsmanship that's a bit like creating a finely crafted sentence. Beyond the tangible stuff, I like to let my imagination run wild in articles and essays. The written word is like an old friend, guiding me through exploring everything from deep topics to the simple joys of life. Right now, my focus is on finishing up a series of books. Each tap of the keyboard brings me closer to revealing the characters and worlds that have taken root in my imagination. I'm excited to share this journey with you, dear reader. Cheers, Patrick

The Third Door - Patrick. M. Kmn

WHY? That was the headline accompanying the young man's portrait on the front page of the Daily on October 10, 2019. For a while, the story remained a national obsession. Personally, I knew nothing of it—I was in no condition to know anything, really. Hell, I wasn't even in a condition to discern the state of my own condition at the time. Forgive my blatant borrowing, gentlemen; I just couldn't resist. My feeble attempt at wit, I'll admit.

So, who am I, you ask? A no good junky. Courtesy dictates a proper introduction. And why have I taken up my pen? Because they might toss me back into a little white room if I fail to keep my mind occupied with something constructive. You see, monsters have made it their personal business to keep me sane— aware to the max. I don’t blame them, though. They’re stuck in the cave, slaves to the ways of the cave. But enough of that business, no more detours.

    Part 1: Six Levels Up

He resided in a cramped room of a seven-story building in Pipeline Estate, Nairobi. Never thought I’d ever step foot in the place—too congested for my liking, too many eyes.

There, I met with his janitor who told me a little about him, a little about the morning of the 9th. Tall, thin, with a hat perched precariously atop his cranium, the man seemed to hold nothing by contempt for anything that walked.

He lived here for two years and said little, the janitor shared after I begrudgingly parted with 500 shillings. It wasn’t until he met the Indian that he seemed to live a little.

He had no other friends I knew of, he added, his disdain evident, Heck, didn’t even know where he toiled, or if he even had a job.

Whatever it was, his profession remains a mystery. All I know for sure is that he didn’t have much. A weathered cot, a cracked glass table, an aging chest of drawers, plastic plates, plastic cups, a 5kg gas cylinder, and a timeworn 2-seater,
