    My Path - Valeriy Gard

    Prologue

    Dear Readers,

Have you ever asked yourself why we are given life? What is the purpose of humanity, for each one of us, and why does this world around us exist at all? What is the meaning of our life, and what awaits us after it ends?

I've pondered these questions myself and tried to find answers, but I've never faced them as pressing issues; and before finding these answers, I had to embark on a long journey. It seems fate had put me on this path, and I followed it without much thought, never anticipating where it would ultimately lead me. Like everyone else, I was caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, with no intention of making any discoveries. Yet over several years I stumbled upon them quite by accident, and surprisingly, through my involvement in karate.

Yes, it was karate that led me to these unintended discoveries, which I'm excited to share with you in this book and in subsequent volumes.

The most astonishing part is that, at first glance, my discoveries seemed to have nothing to do with karate, just as everything I'll discuss in the works that follow seemingly has nothing to do with it as well.

I fully expect that many of you, dear readers, might dismiss certain things that you’ll read here as the ramblings of a madman. That wouldn't be much of a surprise to me. After all, people didn't understand Copernicus, who claimed the Earth rotates on its axis, or Lobachevsky, the father of non-Euclidean geometry who tried to prove that parallel lines meet, and many others, most of whose names remain unknown to us. History has only remembered a few of those whose discoveries propelled the progress of civilization. Many were accused of heresy, burned at the stake in the Middle Ages or, at best, declared insane. I believe their number is much greater than we know.

…At the end of November 2009, a feature film aired on one of the Russian television channels depicting the life of an extraordinary individual, Wolf Messing.

Indeed, according to the film and accounts from those who knew him, Wolf Messing was a remarkable person: he could read people's thoughts, bend their will to his and see into the future.

The film suggests that Messing believed such abilities, like his own, could be developed by individuals with sufficiently sharp intuition.

I must admit I had a somewhat different opinion on this matter. However, with periods of self-reflection and in hindsight, I now find myself in partial agreement with the great seer and will attempt to briefly share my story, which ultimately led me to numerous discoveries and eventually writing this and further books.

    Early stages

I was born in 1959 in one of the former republics of the Soviet Union. My earliest memories go back to when I was about two years old.

We lived in a two-story wooden plastered building, which had two separate entrance halls and four apartments on each floor. All of them were one-room studios, ranging in size from 16 to 24 square meters. In one such 16 square-meter studio on the second floor, three of us lived together: my grandmother, older brother and me.

At the time my parents worked for a company involved in laying oil and gas
