    CHAPTER ONE

The evening sun colored the trails of the park. There were few people there, and there was hardly any noise. Marcus had stretched his arm over the sides of the bench, and Gina had rested gently on it. In the past ten minutes, neither of them had said a word. Their gaze had been on the chirping bed, the unusual reddishness of the even sun, and the whistling wind that walked the leaves about on the sidewalks. They held fast in that embrace for what seemed like a long period of time.

Gina called out, That dinner, Marcus.

They both laughed and continued on the trail toward the spot where Gina had parked her car.

As soon as they'd been done with work for the day, Marcus had suggested they take a walk around the park. The day had come with unusual frustrations, and for some reason, Theo Bradly—who had become the subject of their manhunt—seemed to always be a step ahead of them. Over the past weeks, there had been anonymous
