CHAPTER ONE
The evening sun colored the trails of the park. There were few people there, and there was hardly any noise. Marcus had stretched his arm over the sides of the bench, and Gina had rested gently on it. In the past ten minutes, neither of them had said a word. Their gaze had been on the chirping bed, the unusual reddishness of the even sun, and the whistling wind that walked the leaves about on the sidewalks. With their hands locked one in the other, Marcus and Gina did not have to say any words. The sensuality of their physical connection seemed to say everything that need be said between them. It wasn't long before it was dark, and Marcus suggested they leave the park to grab dinner.
Sounds like a good idea. I could use some food now,
Gina replied.
Gina got to her feet, and she attempted to pull him up by the hand. As soon as Marcus stood, he attempted to pull her along, but Gina would not budge. Stunned, he turned to find a desirous look in her eyes. She still said nothing, and neither did he, for all that needed to be said was already more than obvious.
Marcus continued to look into her eyes. He put his hands around her waist, lowered his head, and pressed his forehead against hers. Marcus bumped his nose against hers lightly and then kissed her. They withdrew with their heads still pressed against each other. Gina giggled, and Marcus laughed, too. Still, no words were said, but Gina leaned in, and for the second time, they kissed. This time, it was longer and a lot more passionate than the first. When it was done, they pressed into a very long hug, and for a while, it seemed like nothing else mattered, not even the cold that had made Gina shudder minutes before. They held fast in that embrace for what seemed like a long period of time.
Gina called out, That dinner, Marcus.
They both laughed and continued on the trail toward the spot where Gina had parked her car.
As soon as they'd been done with work for the day, Marcus had suggested they take a walk around the park. The day had come with unusual frustrations, and for some reason, Theo Bradly—who had become the subject of their manhunt—seemed to always be a step ahead of them.
