Introduction
An Event celebrates, acknowledges, and creates an opportunity of togetherness of the human experience. Whether a marriage , a new born, a new product, or an idea, the event reflectively states all that is occurring in and throughout our lives.
More than thirty years I have spent creating events for people of many socio-economic, generational and cultural backgrounds. By appealing to the complete panoramic focus of the event until completion, my objective is and has been to project the personality and integrity of the host/hostess. Budget, planning, preparation, execution and timelines are critical in creating efficient and smoothly executed events. Trust in professionals you choose will influence the outcome of your event. The Ole adage, You Get What You Pay For
still remains the common sense truth. Whether a home party/dinner, corporate, or personal event, you have to ask yourself the question, Why am I doing this and how much does it mean to everyone involved
? ……Do I have the time, money, and experience to satisfy what I’m trying to accomplish? Of course life is not perfect, yet we expect a perfect event. After all, this is our true desire. As the processes and steps unfold through all the information, desires and ideas that are communicated through the vision of all involved , this is what creates the experience.
By example, I have entertained questions, issues, shortcomings and past mistakes, and therefore am ready to guide you to a simple philosophy that works. And with that in mind, let’s get started!
Chapter 1
The Starting Point
Who? What? Why? When?
Where? and How?
Your goal, in planning an event should be to make it the most memorable occasion for everyone.
The process of customizing your event is time consuming and costly. Many people really don’t know where to start when it comes to planning a special occasion. When initially starting to plan, these are the questions to be asked: Who? How? What? Where? When? and Why? By continuously asking these very questions throughout the processes of the event (especially if you are a do-it-yourself type of person), you will save a lot of time, and quite possibly a lot of money. It is suggested that you follow these recommendations. By doing so, your experience in planning your event will become more memorable and easier.
The initial question to ask: What is the purpose of the function?
Whether it is a wedding or birthday party you should center the event around those individuals. Most weddings are centered on the bride. However, traditions do change depending on the couple. The event should be designed around the purpose or theme.
How do I accomplish this? Answer: Information, Information, and more information. Knowing your likes and dislikes will enable you to define the HOW more clearly. The more information that is gathered the greater the opportunity to accomplish your goal or purpose. Needless to say, how you go about your whole planning process is going to reflect the outcome of your event. Attitude plays a major role in this experience. Remember that you can get more bees with honey than vinegar. Viewed below is a chart of desired objectives for your event.
Once you’ve determined your likes and dislikes and how you like things done, now would be the time to ask, Who can execute my plan?
Answer: There are professionals out there that you should go to for assistance in what it is that you are trying to accomplish. Professionals have strong points as well as weak points. Before you approach the professional
