Part One
In this part of the book we present an introduction to the reading process, and discuss how reading abilities are assessed in potentially dyslexic children.

Introduction
Dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects a person’s ability to read, write, and spell. It is a neurological condition that is present from birth and is characterized by difficulty with phonemic awareness, phonology, and decoding.
Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate the sounds (phonemes) in spoken language. Phonology is the sound system of a language, including the rules for combining phonemes to form words. Decoding is the process of translating written words into sounds or meaning.
People with dyslexia often have trouble with these skills, which can make it difficult for them to learn to read and spell words accurately. Dyslexia is not a result of a lack of intelligence or motivation, but rather a different way of processing language.
It is important to note that dyslexia can manifest differently in different people. Some may struggle with reading fluency, while others may have difficulty with comprehension or spelling. The severity of dyslexia can also vary, with some people experiencing more significant challenges than others.
Despite these challenges, individuals with dyslexia are often highly intelligent and creative. With the right support and accommodations, they can learn to read and
