How Was the Church Service?

About this ebook
God’s design for Christianity is for people to be saved (i.e., being forgiven of their sins) and to grow in the knowledge of the Bible.
The more you know the Bible, the better you live.
The Apostle Paul recorded that it is God, “who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth”. (1 Timothy 2:4)
Dr. Tim Cantrell, in his endorsement of the book wrote,
“Patrick has provided us a useful tool for digging into God’s Word, growing as a Christian, and strengthening churches. May God use this resource far and wide.”

Dedication
To all professing Christians out there who want to enjoy reading the Bible and telling it to others with simplicity, clarity and boldness, may God use this book as a launching pad for you to see the beauty of the gospel of Jesus Christ and for your heart to be captured by it. My prayer is for you, after reading this book, to sing in the same tune as Apostle Paul who wrote, Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus—my Lord. For his sake, I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.
(Philippians 3:8)

Acknowledgement
I would like to thank the following people who made meaningful contribution to the writing of my book. If it were not for them, this book would have remained a draft forever.
Dr Charlie Rampfumedzi for being a fellow brother in Christ and mentor and for your contribution to the book by providing valuable inputs and insights regarding the theological editing of the book. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the supremacy of Jesus Christ and the authority of Scripture. I learnt a lot every time I read your comments on the manuscript of this book regarding theological correctness.
Indeed, God uses means to accomplish His purposes. My special thanks goes to Dr John Street and the faculty of biblical counselling at The Master’s University in California, USA, for allowing God to use you to entrust the gospel to the next generation of ministers of God’s Word and biblical counsellors, of which, by the grace of God, I am one of them. I went to the university to study Master of Arts in Biblical Counselling, but God, who works in mysterious ways, gave me the understanding of expository preaching over and above the biblical counselling I needed to study. And as you taught us, one cannot be a biblical counsellor without being an expositor of God’s Word. Thank you for giving me the gift of the Bible that resulted in the writing of this book to help others receive the same blessing I’ve received from you—which is reading and understanding all the genres of the Bible with simplicity, clarity and boldness.
Endorsements
I’m thrilled to see capable African authors expounding and applying the truth of Scripture for our local churches here in Africa. Patrick has provided us a useful tool for digging into God’s Word, growing as a Christian, and strengthening churches. May God use this resource far and wide.

Some books are a pain to finish reading, but others are a pleasure and a joy to revisit again and again. What makes this book a pleasure to read is its simplicity and clarity, which are key to preaching the Bible. Patrick developed a tool for all who love the exposition of the Word of God. This book is indeed a must-read for every Christian.

"I have been encouraged by the faithfulness demonstrated in this book; brother Patrick has taken a keen interest and demonstrated his diligence and attention to detail. In exhorting believers to love the truth of God’s Word, he has clearly and practically outlined what a biblical sermon is and what is expected from it. This, for me, is a kind of book that is helpful for the people in the pew and the men who stand behind the pulpit.
I am eternally grateful to God for the church in Africa to have this book in their hands and praying that it will impact the hearts and change our ways. A biblically grounded work, almost every verse or passage used has been clearly explained in a manner that one is taken in the depth of the wisdom and knowledge of God. This right here is a man of the Book, the Ezra of our day, Soli Deo Gloria!
[Pastor Gideon Macgovern Mpeni, Graduate from Christ Seminary in Polokwane, South Africa | Senior Pastor at Florida Baptist Church in Johannesburg, South Africa]

"In the death of solid writing from Africans for Africans, Patrick Nemabubuni has ably raised his pen to provide us with an answer to the prevailing problem in Africa, i.e., spiritual malnourishment. Part of the problem is ill-equipped pastors who jump from a text in a Bible book to another without a systematic plan to their preaching. Many of these have become like motivational speakers who massage their congregants with a feel-good spiritual diet. This leads to congregants who remain spiritual babies, and if they grow by any measure, they become spiritual dwarfs. What’s the remedy for this?
"Thankfully, Nemabubuni provides it in this book. He shows us how to carefully do expository preaching ‘that exposes the one meaning of a text, as intended by the biblical author, and apply it to our lives with clarity and strong conviction.’ The author efficiently combines the tools of the point
