It is the wellspring of creativity and invention, and its rich and varied culture benefits everyone on the planet. It is the border of the future, characterized by an aspiration and vision that upends the existing quo and spurs change.

Ancient history: From roughly 10,000 years ago to 500 AD, this time span encompasses the birth and fall of the first African civilizations and kingdoms. It also covers the beginnings and development of writing, trade, warfare, religion, and agriculture. It also covers exchanges and conflicts with other regions, including Europe and Asia.

Medieval history: From roughly 500 AD to roughly 1500 AD, this time span encompasses both the creation and spread of new African civilizations and kingdoms as well as the continuation and modification of pre-existing ones. It also encompasses interactions and exchanges with other regions, like the Americas and the Middle East, as well as the advancement and dissemination of many forms of knowledge, science, technology, and culture.
