About this ebook
Jake Swift and Krystal Payne are engaged to be married and they’re both troopers with U.S. Terra Guard. Aboard a geoplane exploring the Chicxulub crater off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, they learn that the ‘asteroid’ that slammed into the region sixty-six million years ago wasn’t an asteroid. It was a ship from another world. Even more intriguing, they find fossilized human-like remains with DNA that is later sequenced and shows the crew of the doomed ship to be a close match to Maya and Aztec peoples today.
Thus begins a feverish effort by teams from the U.S. and the China and their Red Sword cartel to probe ever deeper inside the crater. When the Chinese find surviving artifacts buried deeper than any one has ever probed before, they extract the find and realize they have uncovered an alien archive they come to call ‘The Dumpling.’ It vibrates at a very subtle rhythm and the Chinese realize the vibrations are an archaic language, with instructions on how to build and operate a ship very much like the one that crashed. They don’t realize that the Dumpling is now activated and has sent a signal into deep space. An unknown anomaly has appeared in the outer solar system, in the Kuiper Belt. Some astronomers think it’s an Einstein-Rosen bridge...a wormhole or a rift in space.
In a rush to beat the Americans, the Chinese build a new ship but, in an eerie replay from millions of years ago, it crashes and all aboard are lost. Now forced to seek help from the Americans, a new ship is built and a composite crew of Chinese, Americans and Mexicans are trained. Jake Swift will command this exploratory mission. Krystal Payne will also be part of the crew.
The ship automatically heads for the rift, called Kuiper Belt Anomaly 1, and is catapulted thousands of light years across the galaxy and millions of years into an unknown time stream. They come to a world they call Omeyocan (a Mayan word) and learn that this is where the original ship that crashed on Earth came from. They also find a human-like people on a world controlled by massive swarms of nanobots and come to realize the Seedlings (as they call themselves) are ancestors of ancient hominins that evolved on Earth.
But the world of Omeyocan is doomed because its star-sun is on track to go supernova in the near future.
In this new and unforgiving world, the geotroopers have to make up tactics as they go along. Success isn’t guaranteed and the consequences of failure will be catastrophic. Only ingenious thinking and the craziest ideas seem to work.
Can Jake and Krystal and their crew save the Seedlings from complete destruction? Should they? Can Jake guide his crew and the alien ship back through the Rift to Earth and home? Can the genie of subterranean conflict be put back in the bottle and room be found on a conflict-ridden Earth for thousands of emigrants from Omeyocan? The answer depends on a hard-bitten former Army tank commander and his seismologist-wife, out to prove herself in a man’s world.
