    Dedication

TODAY I FULFILL MY dream of seeing my first book published. As I review the final model, I can't help but let my mind go back to those moments when it all began. Who knew that having a broken heart would have led me to write this first story? I thank, first, everyone who was looking forward to reading my first novel. The path I wanted to reach to be able to publish it finally worked out. This is the first of many stories I want to tell. To my loved ones, secondly, for giving me the opportunity and trusting me, for giving me the passion and inspiration to write. Thanking them is not enough, because they were all fundamental to the creation of this novel. To you, the person chosen to read this novel first before the rest already mentioned. You gave me a spark of hope and a new point of view so I could write a better ending to this story. I hope you like it from start to finish, and that you smile at life because you still have a lot of future to explore.

Keep looking for sunlight, just like sunflowers. Don't wither, please!

    A DAY TO REMEMBER

For some people, the best time in life is entering the stage of pubescence. For me it was a beautiful period of ups and downs, but nothing that an ordinary young person has not experienced. I enjoyed what happened during my puberty. Every moment was valuable to me, even those moments that disappointed me and tried to make me fall and give up. I could say that the best thing that has happened to me was meeting the girl who marked my life like no one else has; for what she transmitted to me, for her pleasant presence and for what she was to me for many years, until one day she collapsed what we built.

Indeed, this is a moving story of unrequited love, the vibrant story of a connection loaded with untapped potential that found itself caught in the grip of insurmountable emotions. Unfortunately, one should not blame himself or his beloved; rather, it was the cruel hand of fate that conspired against us.

For those who believe that I am exaggerating when writing this story, make sure you read this carefully, because it may help you in the not-too-distant future; For when your wife leaves you to find a better man than you, for when those young couples that exist today who manage to have sexual relations in less than a week of dating and get the poor girl pregnant who thought it wasn't going for her nothing to happen, and for those who have no hope of finding the partner of their dreams. Yes, it will help all of you who believe that everything will turn out well, despite the fights, despite the tantrums, despite crying with joy, because even in the midst of fervent fights, tempestuous outbursts, tearful joy and unwavering pride in the other person, misfortune can befall us, and perhaps even worse.

Love, they say, is an elusive force that comes and goes, but always remains closest to us. Their presence can be as subtle as a masculine scent, skillfully disguised to blend in with the crowd of eyes in a shared space. Perhaps, love resides within the confines of our own professional sphere, discreetly hidden as the object of our affection. Or perhaps, it weaves itself into the tapestry of our social circles, so closely that we fail to recognize its suitability for us. It was during that summer brimming with youthful exuberance, where I found a multitude of experiences that added vitality to my existence, making me the person I am today.

It was three in the afternoon on a Saturday, I found myself walking with my friends on the way to the shopping center like we did every month. A close-knit group of four, our bond was unbreakable as we never stopped running into each other without fail. Often our chosen pastimes involved enjoying a movie at the cinema, or simply meeting up at the food fair and enjoying a relaxing afternoon with friends, as we did on this particular occasion. We sat at a table that was away from most of the fair. And there we were, the four friends who will carry their friendship to eternity at this pace. The trio that forged the kindergarten were: Antonio, David and I, to my left was Marcos who joined us shortly after we met him less than six years ago at a party. It was a very beautiful friendship, which will last for a long time, we felt like brothers who supported each other in everything, in good times and bad we were always there for each other.

And this meeting was the most spontaneous one where we all enjoyed being together, telling jokes and telling each other stories after months without seeing each other. It was the best thing that could have happened to me until that moment. When we were all satisfied to see each other's faces, we began to chat for a while about ourselves to inform each other about our lives.

After laughing so much at the black humor that characterized David, Marcos with some satisfaction said:

—How good to see you again! I have been very busy at university and have been looking forward to having such a conference again for a long time. I thought I was going crazy after reading so many medical books.

—I've wanted this a lot too, it's been... six months? —I replied —. After these vacations I will have to go to university, but I would like to spend these days with you well, since most of us are unemployed.

—They were seven long months, they seemed eternal! But anyway, you and David are going to college soon, right?

—Yes, although I still haven't decided which career to take. I don't even know which university to go to.

—You should enroll with me at the Independent University, there I will go to study Graphic Design, but you could choose to study Law, or even Accounting, you like to keep your mind busy.

—Thank you David, but I'm passing, it's very far from my house, and I could have better options, I don't like expensive universities.

    Antonio intervened:

—We will all have a successful life, whether we study or work, in my case, I was never the best at studying, but working in my dad's small business will help me gain experience.

—This is not a competition —David refuted—it doesn't matter if one is successful or not, this is about knowing how to enjoy life. Knowledge is gained on the street, theory is forgotten, but practice is not.

Marcos made the bold decision to alter the topic, directing his discerning gaze towards me, considering me as a new proposed topic:

—And you, are you still single? —She said with a mocking tone—. Stop being shy and face everyday life, there are many women on the streets of this city, you can get her when you least expect it, you just have to let yourself be carried away by destiny.

    — Sure? —I replied ironically—You say that because you always attract the attention of any woman around you, like, for example, those two who are behind you at that table.

All heads turned in anticipation of the truthfulness of the statement, and in the midst of the commotion, the two young women sitting three tables away feigned disinterest. However, her sudden blush and subsequent change of gaze betrayed her true emotions, leaving them visibly discouraged. David, with a brief comment, quickly put an end to the discussion.

—Let's not rush into what could be the topic of conversation of the year, perhaps of the century, when he gets the woman of his dreams and we have to be envious because she is much prettier than our girlfriends.

Our topics of conversation always revolved around our love life, a topic that seemed to captivate everyone except me. Interestingly, I found solace in my close friendships with my peers' significant others, harboring a desire to illustrate to them that the merits of solitude was a good thing at times, but there came a time when I felt the need for my time to come one day. , And it happened. Life, as often happens, gives us both blessings and difficulties, but on this particular occasion, fortune favored me. As the afternoon faded, we grew tired of our idle banter around the table at the bustling food fair, prompting us to embark on a leisurely stroll before dispersing to our respective homes. Our meetings usually lasted for hours, because not all of us have plenty of time to enjoy afternoons like this.

During the light walk we took on the first level of the bustling shopping center, I could see at the entrance to the narrow corridors that the general public nicknamed Alleys, in the middle a group of young people absorbed in the display of a clothing boutique. Nearby, one girl stood out as a striking contrast to her classmates. While they were all undeniably beautiful, she seemed disconnected from the rest, seemingly drifting amidst her own thoughts. Dazzled by her mere presence, I inadvertently lost sight of my friends. I lost my step because I was observing that girl who fascinated me just by seeing her.

I kept a certain distance from them, very discreetly so that they would not notice my presence and my desire to know what they were talking about during their observation. I watched the group from afar as if I were a spy who wants to hear other people's conversations that require a lot of secrecy to this particular mission. The girls were surrounding the small display case, almost obstructing the view of those people who were also passing by and wanted to see the clothes that were on display. I got closer little by little to hear more of what they were talking about, but their conversation revolved around the display case they were looking at, obviously, but not everyone was interested in seeing it, like that girl.

    — Come, look at that dress. It's nice, isn't it?

—I don't like them, Laura, this store always carries things that I never liked visually. —The beautiful girl answered him.

Another of the group was surprised by his disinterest, turned around and responded:

—How can you not like it? If you are one of the most flirtatious of the group! Before you enjoyed buying all kinds of clothes to attract men with your elegance.

—Well, I'm not as flirtatious as I used to be.

Hearing that I was surprised. Her beauty was too natural and innate to attract the attention of men, and being how beautiful she is. I didn't think it was necessary to continue being striking to the man's eye, even with the casualness of her dress that day I never thought she could be like that. But it's another point in her favor.

When the female collective made their entrance into the store, compelled by my determination to follow that particular girl, I too ventured within their confines. Hidden among the bustling crowd that packed the establishment that day, I deftly made my way through various departments, surreptitiously following their every move, blending seamlessly into each section. I managed to get close enough, being discreet in the distance. There was nothing in the store that caught their attention, or at least that's what it seemed to them. Engrossed in their search for fashionable clothes, they spent more than a quarter of an hour examining the clothes, and some even dared to enter the fitting rooms dressed in clothes at exorbitant prices that they could only dream of buying. And in the middle of them all, there was that girl, separated from her peers, observing with an air of indifference the behavior of those she considered her social cohort.

I had the opportunity to approach her and talk to her, but I was very afraid that she would ignore me, or perhaps that I would start babbling words that would make her burst out laughing out of shame. I chose to observe from a
