A Call To Repent

About this ebook
The nations of the world seem trapped in a downward spiral characterized by unprecedented levels of political and social unrest, economic stagnation, natural disasters, plagues, famines, and mental distress. As our political leaders, philanthropists, and statesman struggle to find solutions to the myriad crises we face, there is a growing cry from the public to appeal to the rule of law.
Many believe the solution to our problems lie in men working together to create, alter or repeal existing regulations, policies and laws in order to create a society and environment that benefits all. After all, it's what been done for centuries and every era in every country has it's defining laws that have ostensibly changed the course of history from the Magna Carta to the Affordable Care Act. But is this a tenable solution for these times?
A Call to Repent, examines this question and suggests an alternative. In the past, man has always looked to his own ingenuity and intelligence to solve the issues of the day. As the situation with the world continues to deteriorate, and cooperation between opposing parties is undermined by sharp and irreconcilable divisions, we are left to wonder if mankind is indeed able to handle the tidal wave of tumult we are experiencing. It is time to look outside of man's limited perspective and knowledge to a Greater. It's time to look…up.

A Call To Repent - Lawrence Cherry
What’s going on?
Something is wrong – undeniably wrong. Not only can you can sense it, but you can visibly see it. It’s the number of events that are uncharacteristic of any age before us in human history. In the past we have had epidemics affecting parts of the world, but we’ve never had a pandemic that has touched every continent on the earth. In the past we’ve had natural disasters, but never of the frequency, scale, scope and intensity that we’ve seen today. Yes, there has been violence in the past, but the number of mass shootings and day to day gun violence that exists in our current time has been unprecedented. In the past, such murder and violence may have been attributed to war, but in our present day it’s coming from the violence from everyday citizens committed upon the general public. This is not to exclude the political turmoil and unrest that has created crises in nearly every country across the globe. It is an age where our political leaders act like children and our children are forced to deal with adult issues. The problem is real.
The time has come to face this problem. No, I’m not talking about the rise of socialism and despotism. This is not going to be a discussion about the wealth gap, the decline of public education, the uncontrolled proliferation of guns, or identity politics. There will be no discussion of the increasing problems with drug addiction and mental health or the rising animosity of the gender wars
nor the resurgence of racism and cultural chauvinism. None of the aforementioned are the problem, but are merely symptoms of the malady that plagues our generation.
Some will argue that mankind has seen all this before. There have always been problems and troubling times caused by various political upheavals, social unrest and subsequent realignment, diseases, and natural disasters. Man is supposedly ever evolving upward: progressing as he moves along. It is assumed that as man evolves, there will be different challenges for which he will find the solutions. As old problems are solved, new more complex problems will arise. To support their claims, they refer to the political, social and technological advances we’ve made over the years. Our current situation is merely a continuation of an endless cycle. This is the way it’s supposed to be. They tell us as the Apostle Peter foretold us they would: All things continue as they were from the beginning of creation
(2 Peter, 3: 4). However, anyone with any spiritual understanding knows that what is happening is deeper than that. This is serious. We can no longer afford to reason or excuse our way out of this.
For starters, we really have to step back and take a more holistic look at our so-called progress
. Yes, we’ve moved from bartering and tribalism to feudalism and absolute monarchies to societies based on much more complex economic and political associations like capitalism and, various democratic and socialist republics. We’ve moved from simple agrarianism to industrialism. We gone from superstition and folk medicine to health care systems and big pharma. We’ve gone from riding horses and sailing simple boats to space travel, from simple machines to computers, and from socializing to social media, but is all of this really progress? Many will argue that these developments have contributed to the development of our quality of life and increased our life expectancy. But have they really?
We are supposedly at our highest state of technological advancement, and yet our birth rates get lower every year. Maternal and child mortality rates have actually been increasing for the past few years. For all of our medical developments to prevent death from various disease, more people are succumbing to them – cancer, heart disease and diabetes brought on by obesity, and unhealthy lifestyles more particularly. For all
