The loud buzzing of a fly filled the lit room jolting Alex Grayson from his slumber. His head throbbed with an ache. He slowly became aware of his surroundings. Squinting in the light streaming, through a window he tried to orient himself.

His eyes adjusted to the light revealing a room filled with a musty smell of old cigarettes and dampness. The floor was scattered with wrappers and empty bottles. Attempting to sit up he was hit by a wave of dizziness that made him lie back on the mattress.

Where... Where am I? Alex mumbled to himself his voice rough and scratchy.

As he struggled to recall how he ended up here memories slipped away like sand through his fingers. The last thing he remembered was working late at the police station, with Sarah, his partner discussing a case.

Now all was enveloped in darkness.

With trembling hands Alex managed to prop himself up on the bed despite his protesting muscles.
