    1: Home on the Range

The planet of Felicity III was not what Larry Turner had expected. Honestly, he wasn’t sure what he would have expected since this was the first time, he had left Earth (he didn’t count the moon as everyone went to the moon). His life was perfect. All he had to do was get up in the morning, go work in a corporate office, survive the sheer boredom, then make his way home to play World of Bones until the wee hours of the morning. He had worked hard to reach level two hundred dark sorceresses and his clan meant everything to him.

That was all gone. Larry Turner was now on some rural planet in the farthest boring reaches of Terran Confederacy space, so far from home...

Gary! Where the hell are you? The shower is broken again!

    ...with her.

The ex-gamer looked over his shoulder from the fence where he was watching the sun come up (because he had no choice but to make sure the frost had not damaged the fusion generator again) and saw the woman with long brown hair waving in his direction from the outdoor shower. It was no more than four pieces of wood standing seven feet high with tarps stretched between as walls. This place was so rural that the cabin had a shower on the outside.

'Thank god it has indoor plumbing,' he thought to himself as she waved in his direction while peeking around the flap that acted as the door to their shower. He grinned wildly and waved back at her pretending he didn't know what she wanted, then looked back out towards the distant mountains and the small town of New Hope a good way away.

Larry shook his head, and he thought about the woman he was ignoring. Princess Aevina, third daughter of the Empress, Arch Paragon of the House Vaesh (whatever that meant) and a few other things she would string together when trying to remind him of his place. Which was ironic since said Xaltean Princess was bonded to him as his servant for four years and six months more. That was a whole disaster in itself. His best friend Shiloh Jackson had smuggled her back from his art study on Solus Minor because Lord Baneth of House Tavik was after her. Larry had to give kudos to his friend for bringing back a hot, exotic princess, but then Shiloh went and got himself arrested, they fled to the wrong embassy, and in the end, Larry wound up her new master.

    BBBAAARRRRYYYYYYY!

The young man gritted his teeth and ran his hand through his blond hair that was starting to get longer than he preferred. He knew for a fact she liked saying his name wrong to mess him with.

WHAT?! he demanded, spinning around to look at her.

Now, Aevina stood outside the shower holding a towel to herself and not doing a good job to cover her body, her brown curls drooping from the morning cold. Of course, he never complained when she was walking around naked because she was great to look at, but as his mom had said, ‘women weren't objects; they were people.’

This woman had a mouth on her.

    "The shower! It's broken. Again!"

What did you do now? I just fixed it last week.

"I didn't do anything! She wailed back, stomping her foot like a petulant child. I want my shower! I'm dirty."

Larry threw his hands up and pointed to the fusion generator two which all she did was stick out her lip and fold her arms across her chest. Kneeling down to the generator, he took longer than he needed to make sure everything was good and to annoy her.

Before she could start wailing again, Larry stood up and marched over to her. He was about a head taller but that never seemed to bother Aevina. One thing was for certain, Aevina had a mouth on her, and she knew what she wanted. He had never met such a strong-willed person.

    It's broken.

Larry looked in at the shower head that was duct taped to a hose that curled around the only piece of iron fasted at the top of the wood that went to the water tank behind the shower station. She still had the towel pressed to her but one breast was uncovered and enjoying the morning sunlight. This planet was cool even in the summer season.

    You told me.

    Fix it.

Oh, how much he wanted to tell her to fix it herself, but unfortunately, he wasn't cruel (a troll, yes, but not cruel) and simply sighed.

Wordlessly, he walked into the shower stall and tapped the touch button that should have started the pump. It blinked for a second before the light got a bit weaker. The pump tried to sound but did nothing but let a few drops of cold water hit the top of his cowboy hat
