Glass Case
Looking into the glass , the girl saw her grandmother. It had been so long since she had seen her, she had almost forgotten what she had looked like. Wrinkles that looked like caverns on an open ocean floor bed. The hooded hazel eyes that shined like a twinkling forest at sunrise now looked gray and seasoned. She was smiling at the girl, just as wide. Her grandmother had been dead for years now, but she always dreamed of the possibility of seeing her one last time. How could this be , she thought to herself. Grandma is just mere ashes on my fireplace mantle.
I miss you, Gram, it’s been so long since I’ve seen your face,
said the girl.
Tears welled up in the old woman’s face as she stared into the eyes of her loving granddaughter. She knew she had left this world too soon, but that is one of the greatest mysteries of life; death.
