About this ebook
Life can drain us. Some days deplete us of energy, time, ideas or support. We try to renew with rest, play, family or retreats - but ultimately, it is God alone who can restore us. The book of Ruth is a story of restoration. Naomi finds herself emptied of all she loved, but that's not how the story ends.

Most who pick up these pages will already be familiar with the story of Ruth. So why read what you already know? Because it is a story, a good story - and good stories deserve repetition. An encyclopedia offers answers for important questions and can then be closed until our next inquiry. But a story carries more than data. It does more than inform, it reveals. A story displays humanity with its strengths and weaknesses. It walks us through common conflicts and delves into hearts and minds. A story is a morning mirror in which we catch our reflection. Regardless of our gender, status, experience or age, there is something in a good story that reaches from the pages into our own lives. That is what the book of Ruth does.
But it does more. This is a story written by God. It is historical and accurate. It is about a particular family and a specific people, but it is universal in its scope. The book of Ruth describes earthly activity but has the eternal purposes of God as its foundation. Unlike some Bible stories, the book of Ruth seems very ordinary. There are no miracles mentioned. No angels show up with grand gestures or announcements. In fact, the voice of God is muted. But His Hand is evident on every page. God is active in the ordinary details of life. In our working, deciding, moving, marrying, burying, through grief or
