Shamweel & Inaaya - Nid Younus
DEDICATION
This book is dedicated to my youngest sister-in-law, my dearest old friend, and my kids. Without their love, support, and encouragement this wasn’t possible.
And how can I forget my beloved husband who inspires me, but he will never take the pain to read it. Thank you all for everything!
Prologue
Shamweel sat in the dimly lit bedroom, the echoes of her laughter reverberating in his mind like a soothing melody. Her laughter, akin to a warm spring breeze, had a magical quality that could calm even his most stressed nerves. The joy of making her laugh, witnessing the twinkle in her eyes after a shared joke, felt like a priceless treasure.
Closing his eyes, he attempted to escape the pain, only to find her face looming vividly in his memory. She was a vision of beauty with a fair complexion, captivating brown eyes framed by thick lashes, a charmingly dimpled smile, and a straight, small nose. Her silky straight hair, usually tied in a small band with a few locks playfully dancing around her cheeks, added to her allure. Shamweel found himself weeping silently as the rush of memories transported him to the day, he first realized his feelings for her.
The flashback unveiled a moment when his mother had sent him to borrow a toolbox, and she, Inaaya Khan, sat in the garden with her cousins, engrossed in studying everyone's hands. Despite being neighbors, she only visited annually during a 45-day vacation from Saudi Arabia to her hometown in India. She was our neighbor's granddaughter, and her presence had always been a constant pleasure in Shamweel's life.
Playfully, he engaged her in conversation, teasing her about being a new palmist. Inaaya, confidently, asserted her ability to predict his future. Initially dismissing her claims, Shamweel allowed her to read his palm. As she touched his hands, an electric sensation surged through him, marking the first time a girl had made such a physical connection. Little did he know that this encounter would set the stage for an emotional journey.
Inaaya foresaw a love-cum-arranged marriage in his future, a concept he found amusing given his academic challenges. His skepticism sparked a playful banter that ended with Inaaya storming off, proclaiming her knowledge to be a treasure
reserved for the genuinely intrigued. Shamweel chuckled inwardly at her revelation. Who, he wondered, would willingly choose to love a loser like him who struggled with his grades?
Four years his junior at the time, Inaaya's childish charm, spoiled demeanor, and undeniable beauty began to influence Shamweel. His visits to the neighbors increased, fueled by the desire to spend time with her and bask in her enchanting presence. His admiration deepened, and his thoughts at night were consumed by her, thoughts he dared not share with anyone.
The day arrived when Shamweel could no longer contain his feelings. Armed with Inaaya's favorite Cadbury Dairy Milk, he ventured into her home as she watched a movie. In a discreet exchange by the window, he confessed his love, leaving Inaaya stunned and speechless.
Inaaya... I am sorry if I am putting you in trouble,
he confessed, anxiety evident in his voice. I don't know when and how I developed this feeling for you.
Her wide-eyed astonishment and the heavy silence that followed hinted at the unexpected nature of his revelation. Desperate to make things easier for her, Shamweel proposed a simple solution – if she accepted the chocolate, he would take it as approval of their love; if not, it would break his heart.
As Inaaya grappled with a response, a call from someone inside the house interrupted the moment. She hastily accepted the chocolate, leaving Shamweel to hide behind a bush, waiting anxiously for a sign of her reaction. Yet, she remained elusive.
His anxious wait led to a sudden realization – the chocolate he had intended as a token of love was missing. Panic set in until he recalled handing it to Inaaya. Relief flooded him; she had accepted his gesture. Grateful and overjoyed, Shamweel couldn't believe his luck – it seemed Inaaya reciprocated his feelings.
PART 1
Inaaya sat beside the windowsill, her heart pounding with an unsettling mix of emotions. The contents of the envelope in her hands were meant to bring joy to both her and her husband, yet now, they held no appeal. The painful situation she found herself in weighed heavily on her, leaving her to question why she had to endure this turmoil, especially when she felt blameless.
The decision to pursue a divorce was solely hers, a realization that she held no significance in her husband Ikraam's life any longer. Unable to continue in a relationship devoid of love and understanding, Inaaya grappled with the unexpected turns her life had taken in recent years. Betrothed to her first cousin at the tender age of 17, the alliance was orchestrated solely by her parents, and she obediently accepted.
Completing her B.COM from IGNOU in Saudi Arabia due to unforeseen circumstances surrounding her grandmother's death, Inaaya found herself at a crossroads. Engaged to Ikraam, an engineer with a lucrative job in Jeddah, their grand wedding plans were underway. Ikraam's suggestion to have her parents join for Hajj and attend the wedding seemed idyllic. With Ikraam's siblings scattered across different Saudi Arabian cities, the logistics appeared seamless.
Ikraam, at 26, stood at 5'9", a slim and tall figure with hazel brown eyes that belied his youthful appearance. Inaaya, however, felt no strong emotions toward him or anyone else for that matter. Her acceptance of the situation persisted until a figure from her past reappeared,
