Gaia and the Life Extension Company

Every tale has a beginning. While the history I currently know begins far before this particular beginning, the history of our particular civilization as we knew it for almost all of our history starts here. We start many years ago, more than 20,000 years ago in fact, at a place that is not here. I am completely unlearned in the true mother tongue of our civilization, so lets call the true planet of our birth Gaia. It is not my intent to confuse our real mother planet with other current uses of the word, bit Gaia, or rather our mother planet is as good a name as exists in our language. When I speak of Gaia in this particular book, I am referring specifically to our mother planet (or realm, frequency, or dimension, however you care to know it as). I will not reference the current popular meaning in this book, so please just associate Gaia with mother planet, for this text.

Gaia, our true mother realm was remarkably similar to Earth. Same size, same basic day and year. There were differences though. Gaia was not our Earth we know now. It was a place with a completely different history and evolution. There were similar plants and animals, as evolution plus farming does tend to make for similar creatures in similar places, but they were not the same. The history of their civilization grew far slower than it did on our Earth. If you knew how civilizations tend to grow without any help, every single person would immediately know that our Earth history was with quite a lot of assistance or interference as some may think of it. Gaia was a completely different story though. Its history went back at least 60,000 years with many more fits and starts, and problems. There was an ancient civilization on the planet that was quite advanced, but it took until they developed modern technology where they were able to recover anything of much use about them. Even at that, it was not much.

Gaia’s longer history was colder than our Earth. In distant times, there were periods of warm. Before humanity came around, there were lots of periods of warm. Generally colder climates ruled the world for the majority of the civilization’s history though. Please understand that Gaia had our ancestors, but they were not homo sapiens. They absolutely did not share our origins you see that the related human species has. Races and cultures grow from the conditions present. As those conditions were colder, with less sunlight on average than humanity faced, its races were different and what we would think of as being more similar to northern races on Earth. One big difference was the height though. On average, before genetic engineering, average adults ranged between about 6 feet tall to 8 feet tall. They were basically anything from a few inches to a couple feet taller on average than humans are, even without any genetic engineering help. Their species was just bigger for some reason.

The people there at the time where we start were pretty much of one race as we would think of it. Gaia never had any differences like Earth had with homo sapiens versus Neanderthals. They also did not really have extreme differences in race like we see in Africa and Australia simply because their land masses and their climate just happened to evolve more northern like peoples. This was just simply something that came from their world being colder than ours and it was not anything of a value judgment on races being better or worse than each other. The simple fact of the matter is that when you have less sun and more clouds, lighter skin and fairer features help get more sunlight turned into vitamin D.

Another thing that contributed to them not having a great variety of races on Gaia was war. They had an extensive history of war and over time, that plus interbreeding between what different cultures they did have created a lot more of a homogenous society than we do. War brought them down to the brink of extinction on several occasions, including the time at the end of the very old civilization where history basically just reset itself.

History resetting itself due to war did wipe out any few race differences they had. New cultures started with the rebirth and regrowth of civilization. Over the roughly 60,000 years and more wars to the time we start our account, differences in culture similar to what we would have between Italians, Spanish, and French did exist, but more and more it turned into a mixing pot version of the cultures.

If you are familiar with the TIRSOH cartoon series, this is a good place in the text to place where it starts. The fact of the matter is that I was told specific important details of the home world and old civilization, but in order to fill out the story and make it all easier to understand, a lot of details needed to be made up. The character names were all made up. The founding members were made up from general details I knew about the founding members. I only actually ever personally met with three Founders myself. One was the Geneticist, another was his wife, and the third was a materials specialist that at the time focused on materials science and getting materials from one frequency to another.

Putting all this aside, let us start with a retelling of the events in the TIRSOH cartoon series. I will alter a little bit to add some information I either did not have then, or could not fit in due to the information being something that Eternal leadership did not want out at the time.

Our tale starts with a company that specialized in life extension technology. This was one of the more profitable and successful companies on the planet at the time. Gaia had kings, companies, and countries that did not get along. Corporate secrets were useful to have and protect as government spying and spying by competitors was a given. You had to be very careful and very clever to keep sensitive information out of the hands of others. In the case of our life extension company we are following in this retelling of the story, it had help from a secret and proprietary AI system that they had made to keep them ahead of their rivals.

AI was common then. At this time in their world, they were roughly about 500 years or so more advanced than us. It is hard to say an exact equivalent because our leaders have had help, and have been given secret technology that is kept hidden from the public. In their world, they had no such help. Civilization grew much slower, as did the technical knowledge they had. There were no such things as friendly helpful aliens there (or unfriendly ones either for that matter). For all they could tell, they were more alone than us. They also did not have the miracles in religions that we have on Earth. Their religions had to be based more on random chance events and theories made over time. There was no such thing as helpful angels there.

In this world, this Gaia that they were born into, they had to be the best based on their hard work. They had to keep secrets away from kings, ancient powerful families, other business competitors, and other rival countries. In their business, there was life extension by biological means, and life extension by means of consciousness transferal. The area that they really excelled at was consciousness transferal. The mind is a very complex organ/biological computer, and moving consciousness from a biological computer (the brain) to a completely digital one was just as much an artform as it was a science.

This is where their top secret proprietary AI really helped. The consciousness transferal process had quite a lot of automated parts to it that needed to be very well managed by AI. They had a lot of top scientists working in all areas of understanding the brain and how to make equivalent results in digital format, but the AI proved to be very helpful in giving tips that they never would have come up with as easily. Without their AI, their business model just would not be possible.

For those not familiar with the challenges of life extension and transferring consciousness, it is difficult on a whole nother level. I do not mean to drown anyone in scientific theories that Earth scientists do not yet grasp, but there are some explanations we cannot get around having to give. First off, a biological computer or brain does not work anything like a digital one. These fundamental differences make it very difficult to keep anything resembling what we would call actually continuing our life by moving to digital. DNA plays a huge role in shaping who we are. It is not simply a blueprint of how a body is designed that we can just throw away. It does shape our personality and how we understand the world. The various hormones and body chemicals also make us who we are. The unique ways in which each part of the brain works makes the way in which we think truly unique and different from how any digital computer would.

So why not just extend life indefinitely instead of transferring to digital then, if it is so hard? Well, the problem is that even with very advanced medical technology, there is only so far you can reasonably extend the life of a human. At some point, the fight to extend life is not possible. Before then, quality of life becomes a huge issue. Moving from the body we are born with to a clone body was not an option at that time, due to it being far more difficult than just trying to digitize the mind. In digitizing the mind, they did have to worry about not having real hormones, real hunger or thirst, a real sex drive, and so on. Even greed and the lust for power was very important for the people of the time to keep.

Remember, predators and the powerful get to where they are because of the drive to compete and the thrill of being able to beat the competition. This is not just something that all intelligent beings have, believe it or not. Computer systems are typically far more logical. The inborn human desire to always be better, faster, smarter, or richer than others is not logical. It creates a world of violence and a much greater disparity of wealth than a world based on logic alone. Where greed be good or bad was irrelevant though. The company was in the business of life extension. You cannot take one of the more greed and power-driven people on a planet of predators and just turn them into a being that thinks based on pure logic. The person would not feel like they were truly the same person. Friends and family would never see a computer with a completely different personality as being the same by any means as a person it was based on. Moving memories into a system that does not think in similar ways is not the same thing as moving the essence of who a person is.

At the time, they just had to keep a lot of their techniques secret. This was in part to keep ahead of competition, but also because the public could not be allowed to know just how much approximating things, and going for outward similarities, rather than actual real digital/biological equivalents that could be used. They did have a mix that did look outwardly impressive, but it was nothing like what was needed for true perfect moving of one’s consciousness. The digital version was not the same by any means.

The ultimate goal was transferring consciousness from a brain/biological computer to another brain/biological computer. Memories could in part be offloaded to external or implanted devices, but that alone was not enough. More work needed to be done in figuring out important details, so that the very complex inner workings of the brain could be moved without issue. 

In trying to figure out this issue, there was a new type of computer that they invested in. As they were experts in both biological and digital systems due to their life extension work, they tried merging the two into a hybrid of the two. Thoughts of that project at first were to be used in solving some difficulties in translating the mind from biological to digital systems. The idea was that technology was already being implanted with the brain, so why not just try to create a hybrid system that might make it easier to move consciousness more effectively. It would make sense that a hybrid computer could solve issues where biological computers and digital computers just were not that compatible.

What actually ended up happening though was not the creation of a better vessel to put the consciousness of a person that is dying, but rather to just create a new type of computer system that worked a bit differently than anything so far. The first effective computers they made were as powerful as any supercomputer, but with biological and digital based computer parts, blended together as best they could. It was powerful, but not exactly what they were going for. As it turned out, loading in AI programming and letting the new computer type sort of organize itself made something very interesting.

This new AI on the blended digital/biological computer system actually functioned more like a superhuman brain than anything they had ever seen. It did not have anything but very very limited emotions, but it did think in new and powerful ways that nothing to that time had yet. What they also noticed is that the new completely sentient AI seemed to get a lot better with time and with learning. By all ways of measuring it, they had created a new lifeform with thinking that exceeded humans, but was fundamentally different. That AI thought of itself more like a human without feet in a way. It called humans humans with feet because it knew that it was just as much a sentient lifeform as anyone. It also was far smarter and far quicker than any human. That is important.

With the power and speed of this new computer, the idea of putting a human consciousness into it was pretty much immediately ruled out. The new even better AI helped point out that no human would be safe in such a powerful mind with the levels of greed and violence that universally every single client wanted to have. The newer advanced AI showed all sorts of projections for the world, if humans were given that type of thinking ability but with the same greed and bad use of logic that we have, and every possible scenario was an unimaginable nightmare.

After some thought and discussion with project leaders of the company, the new AI convinced leadership that moving from brain/biological computer to a newly grown brain/biological computer was something that could realistically be achieved within a reasonable time frame. One thing that came completely out of left field that they did not see coming was the discussion about other frequencies of matter or dimensions as some may call them. The new AI pointed out, life without limits is not a safe technology to have sole control over.

The desire to live forever was so powerful that every single possible scenario that the new AI could compute always included a complete takeover of the business by the kings and powerful ruling families. The scientists working on the project and other business owners would all eventually be killed in every single scenario where it is known they have technology to truly keep people alive for unlimited time periods. The new AI pointed out that the only people that would get another lease on life would be the most violent. This in turn would promote even greater inequality than existed then (and their world was already a big mess).

The new AI gave frequencies of matter as the only reasonable solution out of the mess. AI advised that while one team works on finishing the problem of how to get one old brain to transfer consciousness to a new one, another team needed to unlock the secrets behind multiple frequencies of matter and get the team to a place they could reasonably hide forever. Living in the same world as everyone, as the AI pointed out, was not a reasonable solution. The group of scientists was far too outnumbered. Even the best hiding place would be found eventually.

The knowledge that the new AI suggested to unlock was something where they could literally travel to a different parallel version of Gaia (Our Earth was one such parallel realm.) As there was no reasonable other way to get permanent safety, the team started working on the suggestion AI gave. They got an out of the way location where they could study such things as portals without it being as easy for the governments of the time to see that they were up to something. Just in case you were wondering, moving to another planet was not really an option either. They did not have the technology to get to another solar system quickly enough, and if anything broke down on the way, they all would be dead. AI ruled that out as being realistically not possible at the time. The best way forward was oddly enough unlocking frequencies of matter. AI assured that it could help solve the problem in far less time and with far less risk than travel. Plus, no one would follow them as easily.

The Project to Leap to Immortality

Being roughly 500 years more advanced than our Earth, they did have some better theoretical knowledge than we do. Another thing they had going
