C'est Possible - Count Walter von Oskar

    Introduction

As it happens since finishing my studies at the Polytechnic, I began writing what I saw and what I would experience living in a city as big as Lima or London. My first book was to be called Deep Rivers, in memory of my mentor Miguel Arguedas a professor at the university where I came across one Spring Day, in 1968, having read Rios Profundos and El Sexto, they inspired me to be a writer somehow, having never wrote anything great and never for the fact had published anything, for except few articles in the University magazine. But these two pieces of work were also read by my colleagues’ students at La Molina University. And I think after his dead by suicide, it became a cult for all of us. My first few two chapters of work unfortunately didn’t reach its climax, it got lost and disappeared at the house of my sister where I was staying.

This introduction as in a way a recollection of passages of events and life that took place while residing in Lima, whilst conveying a series of episodes of extreme importance through the years of my youth. It was an episode of great importance it was rather short and sweet. It should be said allied with work experience and the much learning about the riddles of life. I must begin with the place where I was born and raised to age of fourteen, it was in a farm my parents had in a valley in the North of the country. It was a place of tremendous beauty surrounded by tall mountains, where the sun would appear behind those tall mountains in the East in the early mornings and bathed the entire valley with its golden lights, and stayed that way for at least twelve hours, until goes to hide after six in the afternoon from behind other small mountains in the West to the Pacific Ocean, it was very beautiful to see it, and as a child it was my playground, my utopia, a bliss where I lived to the age of fourteen.

Then going to continue further studies at the Polytechnic, trained to be a professional man of science and technology and to know the world without a doubt, and then to University, and in my country it was short and exquisite in the whole, then finding a job and the life in a bigger city, which gives you a total different perspective of new life and the expectations one is to experience in life, and without a doubt more challenges on the way, and then as if meandering through the intestinal lea ways the city has to offer, famous and infamous places one find by discovering as one goes alone, beautiful and not so beautiful and always with an eye an desires one wants to achieve.

Meeting new people and finding jobs procured me with tremendous excitement, and if one is alone then relationships play a great part in one’s life, I must say it enrich your goggles as they say, however, one must be always on the lookout with open eyes as if en ready to catch them on the spot. Coming from a village farm where we had practically all we want, and where life was relatively easy and very cosy for us children, and to live in a built up city where life has no limits and is controlled by city regulations and so on and so forth, living in the countryside it was my playground where my instincts managed to guide me swiftly through the ample fields of nature and my surroundings, and of course the city was my surroundings, and of course the city was different in that sense and I feel proud to have born at home and not in a brutal hospital as it was at the time.

I am sure my first recollection of my early life began when I was almost three years of age as my mother recalls clearly how I used to amuse my parents by trying to dance any quirky sound of a song being played in our record player or I would hear coming from the radio as well, and though my first impressions of life had begun at this early age as I was told.

    Continuation

In the process of being able to write this work, I would like to bring in my unseeing narrator behind the scenes, when I would need his help so he can step in throughout this story, I am about to tell you.

Here we go with him. Sygmund’s extraordinary life has never seemed to have stop, on the contrary he keeps reinventing himself as time goes by, what a life he has, beautiful and meticulously calibrated for a young man of his time. His although young and full of gifts which he thinks the gods are constantly looking after him, and as he goes along the Cosmos is with him at all times, guiding at him where he wants to go, his freedom is transcendental and ephemeral at a quest for his rights to have all he wants. By all means an interesting peace of work worth reading.

Sygmund writings are inspiring for future generations, he is one of us a thinker and an intellectual, a visionary. A seeker of life and pursuits of men’s existence.

When I was invited by Sygmund to read his book, I was impressed he managed to finish his book, titled C’est Possible, the word here is changed to Spanish word posible, rather than employing the right word in English, possible. It is purposely implied by the author to indicate to the reader this is a Spanish story therefore it should be employed the Spanish word posible.

Sygmund has shown his work to several of his friends and acquaintance and they all like it, this one in particular is something new and think it was a departure from the others he has written earlier and never managed to publish them. Which after reading C’est Possible, then they thought, of course in life all things are possible it doesn’t matter who you are, then they thought… what is life and why it is not the same for others, and do we have choices and hopes that can be said are the same and possible to achieve? Of course, we do have those rights life would give us, and it is a subject we always seemed to neglect when we have acquired all we want, and we can only think of it when we are in despair or have nothing all.

Then, is it possible we can find all we want and aspires to? I kept asking myself the same question over and over again for nearly all my life without finding an answer, or is it happen perhaps there is no such an answer, then what else is there. Some hints of superficialities do come into question I must say as we began questioning ourselves as to why we are in this situation. These are pinpoint questions we managed to extricate from experiences sharing with friends and family which we can find beneficial and beautiful sometimes.

Of the numerous people Sygmund de Coronel came to meet, those he most appreciated were for their friendship and ideals they shared with him, he would admire their qualities mostly when he could find strong friendship with people, he likes most. Unknown to him at the time these people were to be the light of his life, and the source for his inspirations, Sygmund had come to acknowledge life with people and friends as a means social trying to know people and find friendship, and if found, then he considered them as real friends.

After finishing my university studies at the university, I was bewildered as what to do, employment was scares and my future was in doubt, with a degree in Agriculture is a lot to show to prospect employers but to the right employer in the field of Agriculture that is. Applying to government department as in this case the Ministry of Agriculture, was the only hope finding a job with my degree as Agricultural Engineer, and so I did. I went to the Office and asked for a position to be told there wasn’t any vacancies at the moment but told to fill an application form and wait and see, and I did that and handed in and had hope for the best. I didn’t care in what department they would employ me if such a vacancy would be available for me, somehow, I thought I could have a chance somehow, but while waiting for this to happen, in the meantime I must try to find other job as a sort of income, besides my chances having to wait for the Ministry of Agriculture I was told it could take several months.

I remember my father advising us my brother and I to wear a good suit when going to places, especially if going to government offices anywhere. He bought an expensive blue strip suit and white shirt and black tie for me and a brown to my brother, those in the Italian and French styles. I thought having an elegant suit could go to places I wanted with my friends and impressed the girls.

And that was my zest for life and of course taking my friends with me to the opera house and cinemas, and to me they were a must. Lima at the time had very good places to be found and of course people as well. I came to like my dark blue suit and tie and my black shoes. I always admired well, dressed men in striped suits of cream and brown colours, with black or brown fedora hats, and that was for me the ultimate being elegant and romantic too and why not? And when I used to see those elegant people at first sight, I thought they were out of some twenty’s movie, and not like typical businessmen at all, and their suits reminded me of those Italian men of early nineteen hundred, neatly dressed, or maybe like Mafia bosses. Also, it came to mind to think of Al Capone and his gang how well dressed they were.

The people in Lima during the time I was there wearing such beautiful cloth had class and charm unique to themselves, very elegant and I like that. Those people did impress me most, I remember when looking at them I saw these men as some kind of ghosts out of some picture film perhaps and that was what impressed me most as a young man, and yet what also came to interest me more, was how casual they were wearing those outfits, the powerful fragrant perfumes that permeated the air as they passed near me.

It was like a dream never experienced before, beautiful and elegant. My desires to dress like them became an obsession, and never for once was free of that, but first I thought of finding work. But I think having strong desires about something we want, it could lead us to achieve that desire in no time, besides it can manifest itself I so many ways. Would it be possible to have all we want in life I thought, and what would it be the cost if I might achieve all this? And should we wait for tomorrow for all this to eventuate? That obscure barrier we encounter on the way is to remain unattainable for all of us, as usually is, maybe for ever, or maybe not. Or maybe it would evaporate unexpected also.

However, we can spend our entire lives discussing this topic and find no answers, but why should it be this way.

Sygmund is not an ordinary young man, in fact he adores what he does and has good rapport with all types of people, young women find him handsome and very intelligent, and he loves women. Besides what is life without love, but then of course, sometimes for a price, and that price can take on several forms. Wouldn’t one think that love is perhaps the ultimate to quash all our desires? Not always though, because there is nothing writing as perfect, the employment Sygmund had love and plenty of money and all that, wouldn’t you think could have been enough for him to settled down and now with his new lover.

Quite the contrary, at his return from Delft after completing his training, and working already in the position they supposed to have kept for him, suddenly throw it away, and not just work, the love of his life, the house of his adopted parents, or his parents in law. He suffered a total breakdown from where he couldn’t cope and run away as far as he could to another country. However, all was not lost, the gods and destiny played an enormous part in finding again what he thought was lost for ever, well he did and that was even a greater pleasure still finding his beloved Talis waiting for him, and that was a Herculean master peace of luck, but what was that and one could have been able to rush quickly to find the meaning of one’s great love? Sygmund found all that after thinking perhaps he will never be accepted coming back to the love he had left and his beloved family, but he was wrong. Then the welcome he was to receive, and those glorious moments waiting to be reconciled were ephemeral and unique to say the least. Beauty and despair are two poles apart from which one could not predict, let alone predict its outcome.

Sygmund had become the winner and that was for sure. Besides what love would be without music I mean the music that was happening at that time, which was the glamour of pop and the glittering movement of rock music, the hippy movement and the psychedelia, those beautiful sounds of the sixties and the seventies, and this was actually what was happening when Sygmund was around, and of course finding his most beautiful companion, he was in heaven, there he was inspired to live and have an exquisite time of his life. An incredible and fascinating life he came to have, a very rich time to have been alive he said, and how his adopted parents, and parents in law loved him so much, I which I could have met him in those times, but of course it couldn’t have happened with me, but it did happen to Talis, what a beautiful life they had, God and the Cosmos bless them.

On the notes that was writing by George Harrison about life and love, his most melodic song would have to stand as the most charismatic of them all What is life. It became the symbol, epitome of their union in such a way it was regarded as the emblem in their lives, a unique soul very touching that was to be for them until their end of days. And also, he recalls ‘Photograph’ by Ringo Starr, another very moving lyric, and not to mention ‘Hole in my shoe’ by Traffic. Sygmund makes references to these songs as if very significant for the development of their love they had for each other which it was, it let them grow in that sense, he said that its lyrics managed to put something extra into their lives, because they had a special substance to their souls.

What is interesting about this story is that it follows a path of unprecedented insights which Sygmund never expected, and how all these events managed to catapult him without being aware into being a very wealthy young man, and being able to have just about everything he wanted, love, home and a fabulous wealth, and that is remarkable and he managed to achieve all this without lifting a single finger, which is extraordinary while others struggled incessantly to even find love or money.

The meaning being a life is not limited to any living individual, it is a challenge yet to be found, while on the run-in search for a meaning of it. It is a transition rather where there are certain levels to describe its presence without knowing, the ones with present blood which allowed them to live and the others that would need some kind of microscopic type of insulin for them to exist. The combination of the two allowed the author to enter his present world and the last one he just left when describing the loss of his beloved Nina, and I can sympathise how he feels. He makes referrals to his late wife Birdy Nina and his present girlfriend Talis alas wife to be now. The story itself surrounds at two ends of the coin the one how it happened and the other how it might have happened, it might have taken place subliminally and consciously we imagine, but he did have the chance to live his life he even didn’t choose, a life and gifts he received arrived to him as if in a silvery plate. One wonders if this could be the same when we desire something very strongly, and I also wonder if it is more than that, are the gods and angels present in those moments for us as well?

I think it wouldn’t matter in the end, and how we would receive anything from the almighty, or what sort of person one may be, but should we think it is possible perhaps to overestimate what we are capable of? Or is it possible maybe to think that our lives should be always good for our own psychic, or one must have to struggle to the far ends of the world to find it? Well, we wouldn’t know wouldn’t we. Because life is very transient, and I am very convinced that the rest is left for us to find out, I am very sure of that. The reckoning results for anyone is a kept guarded secret, that only the gods would know, very sure of that, but how we are to know all this when we don’t even know how to know what we know.

For the author, it was necessary to add two ends to this story, one in particular was to establish as he was doing the entire entrance of the story as it was en situ, and the other as a request from his late wife Nina who had suggested to him to change the end fate of his adopted parents. Because it was very late to do that, that he suggested to enter another chapter as an end maybe be in exchange for the drastic situation of their demise of the family so adorable to him, and on the other hand to make it palatable to the reader. As it came to be a very interesting new ending which sounds more palatable than the first.

Lamentably it was very sad for him that, when he finished it, his wife had already passed away, reassuring her it was going to be a much better ending, which it was, and in the end to find those delicious gifts he always searched for. However, to be equal as he was and having received from the gods and the Cosmos all he would have aspired, perhaps would be impossible, is life C’est Possible, whatever one sets his to do anything will be limitless, there is nothing to stop it.

Obviously, we are not the masters of our own lives, but we can influence a little and asked the Cosmos for it is intervention when we are in difficulties, Viktor did in that aspect and what he came to receive was a bliss totally unexpected, and it should have been always as it was for him. A talisman carried by Viktor in the form of a bankbook, guided him and served to find Sygmund somewhere where the gods have already arranged the meeting to find each other, and it wasn’t a miracle as they later assume, but it was, because already the plans were set on and en ready, that it had to take place as for both of them, all they had to do was to walk towards each other, walking the two of them at opposite directions towards Piccadilly Circus in London.

A miracle perhaps as one may care to suggest, but it wasn’t even planed. As Viktor and Sygmund they would have thought it was destiny as it is normal for humans to think that way, in the Cosmos that’s not the case. A strong development ensues as a consequence to be follow by the most beautiful encounter, that can only be said as if it was being written for a film, and yet extending his pleasures of life in a continuation of exquisite delights. Life is very peaceful for the family now and for ever be this way. However it was the return of the prodigal son that was to conveyed a much greater emotions of love and continuous route of delights and rich life the entire family came to have, a celebration of marriage and the delights that was to bring them immense happiness which lasted for a long time, however Sygmund appreciates what he came to find along the way and the gifts he received from the almighty, and the Cosmos, the resting place of the souls and where his beloved Nina now resides and those of his parents.

Sygmund is not a religious person, though he is an intellectual with a mind of his own, he prays daily to the Cosmos and communicates with the souls of his beloved parents and his adorable Nina a mystical human being, his thoughts are now turned into the believe that there is a seemingly communication with his Cosmos believe that we exist there after we depart from earth, thinking like this, somehow it somehow managed to keep his mind open and live-in sanity. There is however, that strong assumption to life and the following teaching of religion and the belief that existence is a mere recognition of what we are, and what we are doing towards trying to rich that gold of existence we want to achieve. We are orphans on this earth of ours, every individual by instinct tries to find a room, a place in which to rest his tired body after working for long hours in the fields, at the office or somewhere where we managed to coexist with the rest of the community.

We have to understand that we are all individuals with mind of our own and we can resolve our internal problems just about on our own, but that depends, if our education was well formed withing the proper rules of the mind. Our educators are by all means the guides of our future from the moment we set foot in a school and those teachers begin tuning if you like, the roads and foot paths of our future. God bless them.

    Shalom Shabbat tobah

    A Chance in a Million

In the splendour of the beautiful gardens and parks of La Molina university in Lima where I first encounter paradise if it wears, I pondered into its beauty and followed its nature and called upon the gods ad thank them for bringing me here, to learn and meet people for guidance and though show me the lights of heaven and beyond, then I realised I was already connected with the Cosmos and in the world of my own. I followed its path into oblivion and soul search and found my arcadia, that was the beginning in which my soul was going to rest.

That was my soul searching for the elixir of life. The transcendent richness of its fecundities led me to found what I was waiting for, from its ancient forest and cricks stood the spirit world of the hereafter, alleluia I said and prayed to their souls and my Omnipotent for always prosperity and guidance, peace, and tranquillity, then I must had found my connection with my past life, to realised I was protected by the nature itself, and being part of the sky. A feeling being accepted as part of earth’s existence and the constellation of the galactic universe. How beautiful and handsome is presented to me as if a delicate flower in full colour, and yet hard to define its true colour as it is in the rainbow. Its sublimity comes from distant star from the heaven and has travelled from far into the distance to be with me. Then I asked what it was its name but couldn’t talk, its sings were from faraway, but from the Cosmos.

Finding an encounter and follow where it comes from is a double edge soar, and what it is, is another of our experiences we must learn, and what our chances would be finding one, very difficult I would think, but we rely on chances that present to anyone of us going through the rigors and desires finding what we want are not very simple, in fact the more we try to find it, it remains aloof, but it is there right in front of us? One shouldn’t try hard to find luck, it would appear to us in the most unlikely situations without expecting or asking for it. That happened to me many times, and I am sure happened also to each one of us. We managed to prey and even commend our spirits to help us finding one.

In the midst of all this there existed people in the ancient world who send prayers to the Almighty sun and the cosmos, for help in whatever they would want in their lives, their offers to the gods were in so many forms, human sacrifices amongst the many acts they have had. As it happened in the Azteks and the Maya civilisations, these acts were as we would think barbaric and have been very horrific, people sometimes were buried alive, kill by crania penetration and extraction while the person was alive, all this to please their gods.

The diversity of ways that exist at present so-called civilised world, of course is not the same as theirs, as we have no idea how different it must have been to ours, we can only suggest and think it was based on faith on something greater than theirs. It gives us no clue as to estimate how close they were to their gods and their spiritual world. I can imagine as deep and even melodramatic, because of some descendants of those civilisations they still manage to operate an ideology not equal as ours, that it gives us some clues about them. In the case of the Aztecs, the Mayas and the Incas civilisations exist still at present time certain clues from those times, being passed from those times but this is as far as we go. as our rituals are mostly determined by pleasure of hilling, in anyone’s life can be summarise as mere coincidence or just luck appearing as if it were out of the blue, are not perhaps always the same, as if they were predictable because which they are not, there is nothing to sustain its certainty as true in so far, we are concern this can be right in saying this. And this is the simplest of the reasons we always emphatically add the word out of the blue, it’s a miracle, not because they are there, and we don’t seem to be recurred to other forms to specify this phenomenon.

They say, ah, but you are very lucky, and ah but you are not very lucky, and some people say also keep trying.

Sygmund is the sort of chap who was always being encouraged by his elders to listen to people, young and old and to asked himself with the same admiration and disdain for other people for not being compassionate to those who are not so lucky. During certain occasions over the period of many years Sygmund had asked himself over the expression of being lucky or unlucky, or at the time ending with the same frustrating question over times what is luck, and how one obtains luck, is it something we create or expect good to happen? Or is it the opportunity one finds himself at the right place and at the right moment?

Or finding himself in a world of make belief? This doesn’t appear to satisfy anyone either. What we expect of life, the life each one of us is living, for instance he had finished his university studies and still fills insecure about the outside world, for the fact having a degree he thinks it doesn’t mean one’s life is already set in as if en ready to go forward, on the contrary, this is just the beginning, perhaps a road full of frustrations and it gives him a series of mix apprehensions which confuses him, a world of confusion he thought as what he was going to do, and mind you, he wanted to be educated always, and be learned as much as he could, and at the end become an Engineer, yes in that field related to the land and all that where his first knowledge of the land where he grew up become his first steps of his learning life, this has never left him, and which he is able to carry with him always.

But then again getting his first job he was not fully satisfied or contented even though it was his first job he came to have, and yet it was able to look into the future, it is not the same to say that he wasn’t happy with what he was earning, that aspect was very good for him, because he had enough to satisfy his needs and going to the cinema with his friends. But there was something missing and could not find what it was. Then he realised it was the place to find where he mostly wanted to be, but that again if to find that special place he had in mind, it had to be with a price, and that was the catch he had to accept, and as this is the case when students finish their degree, they find themselves being in an oblivion situation, as if being thrown out by a hurricane into an unknown land from where they must find their way out in any way possible…

Sygmund had become an idealist and a dreamer amidst of turmoil whirlwind of questions and desires. The finishing studies at the Polytechnic and after that going to La Universidad National Agraria La Molina and obtaining a degree in Agriculture and Science, it didn’t prepared him into his future life, or even trying to find a good employment, the isolation he found been was unprecedented and very challenging, he was to face life head on, in fact he had to fend for himself was because there was no professors to advise him on his future now, he was alone now, up there, life is very tuff and very challenging, which most of the graduates find difficult to cope with. While as student he was being reassured always with that sense of having a degree, would meant a secure employment anywhere, but it wasn’t the case and for the fact having good education would have mean a lot to Sygmund, but it wasn’t the case, and that was the dilemma he found himself in, a crisscross road of confusions and challenges for he wasn’t expected to understand quickly, students never are told the struggles they may face after finishing their studies, in reality they are been thrown to the lions if it were, and that became a great concern for him, somehow the little money left he had managed to fulfil the opportunity to search for his future somehow and so he did, but always thinking what to do.

Although he thought maybe he should have taken a trip in an Ocean Liner and see what would happen, If, why not, he has the funds to cover that, no problem, but he didn’t instead he left his feelings to rest and thought in getting a job.

An idealist? maybe, then again aren’t we all? Some receive gratitude’s and achievements almost as if it wares by decree, others they have to earned it as if in a fight, but the price is always high. Was it this that a great philosopher of the eighteen hundred put it that way? Actually, there were more than one, but the one Sygmund came to admire most was Jean Jack Rousseau and Victor Hugo, not to mention also Charles Dickens. While witnessing the sufferings of the poor of the time were to encounter, where the rich on the other hand living sumptuous pleasures while the poor were starving.

The two worlds apart resembled like an oasis if it were, and why it was so much division between the rich and the poor, then he was thinking besides the melodramas that were to encounter in between, death and obliteration. It is the poverty is being seen more as in the countryside of the countries of the world, but nothing will compare with the suffering of the returning soldiers after the First World War, in England especially, there was very little money to spend by the UK Government at the time, and the returning soldiers they have no choice than to beg and London streets were full of the most poverty one could see at the time, there are accounts that those soldiers who were able to just walk, were exhausted to the point of breakdown.

After being in the front fumigated, gassed and exposed to the most horrible treatment of the war and ending their tragic moments of life on earth, it was tragic and to see themselves begin for food. Nobody can imagine how bad must have been. When Sygmund hear those cries for help, he then wondered as if in despair, and asked himself a question, if life is worth the suffering, to this he is rather intrigued for what happen, and why.

’The world in which he was living sharing with all kinds of people have no control of it these were their motto, and it was in a way for Sygmund de Coronel as well, a world of pleasures and great enjoyments by all means, but for those without wealth it could have been difficult to enjoy. In a way he is not very sure if pleasures are earned by having wealth or by being able to acquire, and of course one can work all its life and never become rich, where others sometimes they never had to work and yet they become wealthy, and that is the difference.

Though wealth sometimes can be obtained by sheer luck, or from heaven, or from inheritance, which always amounts to a very lucrative sum.

Despite whatever is happening in the world he is living people and places are his interests and that is his world as he prefers, and by being in the right place and with the right people, so far, he still would consider himself lucky. And thinking the places he would prefer to live in Paris or London which came to adore, there were his adopted citadels of his inner world, and he feels very comfortable, those two places are to him the epitome of all he would like to have during his life which he did. And being there he thinks his life would start again anew and the times he was missing in between. Those cafes of Paris and the night life of London West End, Vienna where the Society and elite meet.

These are the places and people he would like to hang around with why you may ask—well, because they are somehow people living with certain class of their very own. To him they represent a kind of elegance, people with something special, and urge to strive for something in life, people who can tell you something new, besides your knowledge of the world increase your imagination, and with vast insights, one can always expect to keep upgrading the interests in life.

Would a degree perhaps help to find the right people to be with? That depends on he thinks, but maybe not but who knows he thinks. But what’s most important for him is having class if those with plenty of wealth don’t know what class all is about, and that says it all. The many people he came to see and admire and had known so far, and very wealthy though, he found boring and without class. That is the case sometimes when he was introduced once to a friend of his friend with plenty of dough and nothing to say, almost as to say no culture and no personality, boring, let alone having class, but in the realms of who could it be this person, that sometimes doesn’t count. And found out that if you have plenty of dough you can buy friends literally speaking, how? By inviting them to restaurants or their clubs and he would pay for all, and the news would keep spreading that way that a millionaire friend can invite you to those places one who would never have money to go there, then the friendship is settled.

On the reasons as to why he would like to mix with special people? He would say because they have something to say, something you or I don’t know, besides new people think they have something special within them, or will be because they can help you to gain that something one is looking for, and one of those is for sure what they would carry with them, to ware good type of clothing for instance can manage to impress anyone for that matter and this is terribly important, such as going for interviews, being able to calmly and eloquently employ good educated phrases and words that no normally be required in these occasions can help a lot, and finding out with a different type of accent usually from the capital impresses him quite a bit when looking for an employment, and always be secure and confident of what is to say in front of a boss or a wealthy encounter.

Having in mind that these are prerequisites of tremendous importance when one wants to step into the next leader of achievement. I have always been drawn to good cloth materials of all types and of good quality, and how different it looks in people who ware them, good cloths for me represent something on people, and make them look different if not very special, sometimes wearing a good hat and walking on the street, and if the right people is to wear them, then an spectrum of the individual is being drowned to the observant, and those who would admire would stop and look at them with certain gaiety, and one should acknowledged them in response by rising one’s hat with a smile if possible in solemn gesture, if possible too with gratitude and pun ash.

Sygmund is a young man with that certain type of desires People with class of their own is always an interesting medium to encounter, one is for instance in ore to admire them, and that for him is and still is the norm in certain circumstances. St. James in London is that kind of a place to find the typical English men to admire. Nowhere else is this more visible than in the superb Italian fashion, and in the English accent coming from Oxford or Cambridge universities and the other having a good French accent and of course their unique elegance.

Suits made of Cashmere or Jersey fabrics have some special motive in the way they look. Once I saw for instance Giancarlo Giannini in a typical Italian striped suit, worn with such an elegant effect that it reflected on him as something of a renowned film star of the thirties, the effect it created on him was obvious and contagious to say the least, and his other hero was also in the same class and he was of course Vittorio Gasman, which he happened to have a chat once with him when he met him once in London. People’s clothing reflects externally their personality and the individual within themselves, maybe an indication as to revel themselves upon us, perhaps their lives, their personality and who they might be.

The late nineteen sixties and seventies with the glitter of pop culture and hippy era, an incredible outburst of glamour appeared as if from nowhere. An outburst of creations in the manufacturing and retailing industry, which Sygmund came to encounter in the cities of London and Lima. The Psychedelic and flower power was on the air and everywhere to be seen and heard and see on TV and on the streets, it was very beautiful and colourful, Sygmund was being drawn to it like a magnet, it was contagious in a way even the music of the time being played in concert halls and elegant stores of places of recreations played an enormous importance during his life. It was extremely beautiful, and it appeared as if from nowhere, and he embraced and loved so much.

Remembering for instance what he came to wear were the designs of Gino Paoli fashion shirts, so beautifully decorated with flower motifs, and full of beautiful colours so splendid and radiant to see, and he thinks it managed to fit the time and place where came to live and stayed. Lovely designs of shirts and kinds of cloths in all the stores of London Chelsea, Kings Road and Carnaby Streets, while Lima had El Paseo de La Republica, El Jiron de La Union, La Avenida Arequipa in Miraflores and St, Isidro were cultural markets with beautiful colours of dresses of all kinds, what was interesting was they employ Totool and rayon fabrics that need no ironing, wash, and ware, they were.

As a young university student at the time, and all students wore those splendid hippy colours, of pink, yellows, white, red, pale blues, and pale green and pale orange, and of course there were violet or purple colours too, which when combined with other colours it gave a multi glamour to the entire spectrum of beauty, and beauty was also the thing to see, and as a young student he became to adore it intensively, and never let it go out of his mind. The hippies of Lima were terribly wealthy students coming from foreign European wealthy Jews and these young people were more in the fashion of the time, with their hippy dresses and long hear, and it looked beautiful to see them and La Molina university was populated with them and their expensive cars they drove. And Gino Paoli fashion was in the scene to provide them for the occasion.

For many years afterwards Sygmund wore those designs by Gino Paoli, and Lima was permeated with those beautiful designs everywhere. Lima and London became the centre of pop culture with those exquisite shops displaying such an enchanting glamour the late sixties and seventies were those times where to live the time was simple an elegance everywhere. And it was helped by local hippy rock bands from Lima and the sounds from abroad, coming to play the most exquisite sounds of the era, such were the sounds of Traffic, The Rolling Stones, Thunderclap Newman, and many more flooded the airwaves throughout those times with the most exquisite of sounds never heard before.

Pop music helped to sell glamour and boys and girls decorated the glamorous street shops at the time. La Molina and San Marcos Universities carried the front of beauty and the always presence of protests and discontent of the students protesting on the streets of the capital. And this of course led to fierce battles students encounter with the police. However, though the conservative English government of the time didn’t see much of this when I was in Lima.

The decorum of beauty and what to wear was left to the wealthy hippy boys and girls from San Isidro and Miraflores to display whatever was there about psychedelia and flower power. And being student at La Molina University one couldn’t resist observing wealthy students arriving to the university in their expensive Ferraris, Lamborghini’s, Rolls Royce, or Jaguars, while the not very affluent managed to catch the university buses to take them there and return to their destined homes. And Sygmund was able to witness the rapid change of the movement that was happening, and the hippies were there to supply that in plenty.

The thing was being at the university, one is free to express his ideas and perhaps managed to change the ideology of the country, and it is a free way of persuading one is future. The new wave of student movement of the time became the executors for a changing world of glamour and beauty and the political games governments played at the time.

Glamour is a statement of an individual, which at first glance it might not mean much to anyone, but what is superficially interesting when a cloth material claims for attention when it is placed over the body of the person men or women. And in this case Giancarlo Giannini was the epitome of those actors who can wear it all. Of course, if one is to delve into beauty and elegance, then you would have to recall the very famous Madame Coco Channel as elegance, and Catherine Deneuve for her beauty and glamour. Actors do come to mind as people as most in touch with these two qualities, about dress and beauty.

As for them it comes naturally, sometimes, Italians and French people, and even actors especially know this very well, and wearing the right perfume to go with must constitute the ultimo about the person. Taking care of these two essential etiquettes of fashion must be observed at all times, they have to fit right to the person who comes to wear it, without it there is no point in spending vast amounts of cash trying to dress up. Elegance and class are two most important details one can’t buy or acquire, they come natural to a person. As they said you have to have it, or you haven’t.

Sygmund has observed this and has seen people in their pursuits trying to obtain certain class of their own, going to such extremes, which is always so elusive for them sometimes. There is nothing more touching to see natural elegance and of course class in people who have very little financial means, but they possessed class and elegance, if you haven’t got class what you ware it doesn’t matter how expensive the outfit is, it doesn’t mean anything. And it is a beautiful thing to see when someone is permeated with this aura of certain class. Quintin Crisp used to say this to his Americans friends. My dear you have to have class of your very own, that is when it comes straight from the person without many efforts and exaggerations of any sort, well it means it presents an attitude unique to those who happen to admire the person.

Class is simple and effective, and it is within the person, it is natural, and you cannot learn it, it comes from within naturally, that is. In the Army forces for instance exist or there is one single uniform style to wear for everyone, and this has to fit in perfectly into the person who comes to ware, one single design model that it must feet in accordingly and perfectly to the body of the person, it doesn’t matter in what service he or she would have
