Introduction
The journalism industry is going through a bit of an identity crisis at the moment. As one can imagine, the digital age that we’re living in has thrown numerous wrenches into the mix, making it so that the journalism industry has to constantly adapt in order to keep up. One could fill a whole book pertaining to the specific issues that are affecting the journalism industry. That’s not our topic at hand, per se.
How can you find your place within the journalism industry? And, even more specifically, how can you become a journalist that focuses on the world of entertainment (as I am)? Well, I’m here to help.
For as long as I could remember, writing was my passion. I’m talking about writing notebooks full of poems in the third grade and attempting to put together my own Teen Vogue-esque magazine kind of passionate. During my studies at New York University, I developed my own individualized major — Writing for Different Media. Just as the title suggests, I studied various writing styles and topics from fiction writing, scriptwriting, technical writing, poetry, and, of course, journalism.
In addition to studying different writing styles, I also put those skills into practice through several internships and jobs. From interning at TV Guide Magazine to working on editorial content for one of the Real Housewives (a story for another book!), I tried to make the most of my time in college.
After graduating from NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, I worked as a celebrity reporter for Bustle and then an entertainment reporter for PopCulture.com, where I have since reached the role of editor, a position I hold today.
Now, it’s time to impart some of
