    Chapter 1

Charlie did it. He has finally finished building a time machine. It’s a device small enough to fit in a backpack. He started building it from a young age as soon as he could understand complex physics. Many years later, it’s finished. His long life goal was to be able to meet his parents who disappeared when he was still an infant. His adoptive father Victor took care of him as he was growing up. He only heard the stories of his parents—what they were like, how much they loved him—and those stories got him so interested that he wanted to go back in time to see how his parents had met. This is what drove him to building a time machine.

I think the time machine is ready to be tested, said Charlie.

I am proud of you, son! said Victor with a smile on his face.

On the TV, they were drawing lottery numbers. A brief thought passes through Charlie’s mind that he ends up verbalizing. This can be a great idea. This is the perfect test. Let’s go back to yesterday and win the lottery today. Easy-peasy!

I trust you, son. Go, and come back safe!

He flips his lucky coin as he enters the date of the previous day, as well as the coordinates, and puts on the backpack with his time machine. He chose the same coordinates of where he was, in his personal lab located in his basement. After a couple of seconds, he arrives at the new destination.

Did it work? Astonished, he went outside talking to himself.

He saw an old man walking on the sidewalk. Good morning sir, could you please tell me what day is today?

    June 26.
