A Hidden Legacy - Sherrie Lea Morgan

    a hidden legacy

With her wedding to Mitch just around the corner, Shannon is living in a state of bittersweet anticipation. On the one hand, she can’t wait to finally marry the love of her life. But on the other is something she promised her twin’s ghost, Steph, which has her emotions in turmoil.

With the future and the past weighing heavily on her mind, Shannon turns to her trinkets box, where only one item calls to her psychic powers. A ring with an unusual, bright-orange stone.

If Shannon’s learned anything about the trinkets, it’s that they reveal their secrets in their own good time. However, the ring’s story is inextricably tied to a family diary. And a woman Shannon’s never met who could turn the life she’s built at Petrie’s Crossing upside down.

For everyone to get the happy ending they deserve, Shannon’s gloves must come off one last time—so she can finally find the strength to let Steph go. And trust that when she reaches for her future, happiness will be waiting to land in her outstretched hands.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    Chapter One

I scanned the faces of my bridal group, all sitting around the large table in the formal dining room of Marnie’s house. It was more of a mansion, but she hated referring to it as such. My face heated as I shifted my gaze to the seating chart in the middle of the table.

    Marnie, are you positive you—

Shannon Price. After knowing me all this time, you seriously need to ask me that? Besides, we’ve already notified everyone, and Crystal’s rearranged everything. For goodness’ sake, the wedding is in three weeks, she snapped.

    I know, I know.

It’s not like people have never had to change their venues at the last minute, Crystal said.

Seriously though, I don’t mind, Marnie said.

I appreciate it. I can’t believe the church renovations couldn’t be postponed for another month. Closing my eyes for a moment, I sighed.

We know Father Creel tried. Dratted contractors. This is your nerves setting in, and it’s okay. We won’t let this snafu smoosh our excitement, Nancy said.

Yeah, you’re right. I can’t believe it’s finally happening. I’m so lucky to have you all here helping me. I turned toward Crystal. You’ve done such a great job. I can’t begin to express my gratitude. I’m so happy Maggie recommended you as my wedding coordinator. What would I do without these women?

You’re one of the easiest brides I’ve worked with since I started my company. Up until now, of course, she said, then laughed. I’m kidding.

Chloe walked in with a large tray of cookies, set it on the table, and glared at the laughing faces. I knew if I left, I was going to miss something. So, what’s so funny?

They’re teasing me about my nerves. Thank the stars you’re able to make it for the wedding.

Don’t get me wrong, I love school, and I’m learning a lot. But I don’t mind a break. Thank goodness the school provides us almost two whole months between semesters.

How long do you have until you graduate from that fancy art school? Maggie asked, winking.

I’ve got another two years, but I got lucky enough to intern with one of the local artists. And— she paused for a second, then continued —I’ve already had one of the professors approach me about doing an art show.

Marnie jumped up and jogged over, hugging Chloe tightly. You didn’t tell me this. That’s fantastic news.

Chloe hugged her mom and giggled. Then facing the rest of us, she announced, I wanted to wait until we were together, and I figured this is as good a time as any. Not only did I find out I’m doing one show this summer, but I’ve also got a bigger one scheduled for after graduation. Plus, I’ve had a couple of places contact me to set up more before graduating.

Nancy clapped her hands. I’m so thrilled for you.

Thanks, she said, then joined us at the table, nibbling on a cookie. So, how’s the search for your cousin going? she asked me.

Did that private detective I told you about find her? Marnie interjected.

I shook my head. Nothing yet, and I’m starting to worry.

Nancy said, It’s been over six months since you hired her to find Lisa. What’s taking so long?

I don’t know. It seems she moved a couple times after her initial contact with me. Since it’s been over a year, it makes sense that she might not have stayed in the same place. I just want to finish getting these trinkets returned before the wedding.

Don’t worry. It’ll happen soon enough, Maggie said.

It’ll happen when it’s meant to happen, right? I said, grinning.
