Does God Lie? - Dr. Jimmy H. Davis

    Dedication

This book is affectionately dedicated to my wife, Frances, who is the love of my life. Besides my salvation, she is the greatest gift the Lord has ever blessed me with. I have been greatly blessed with her presence in my life for over fifty-one years. Lord willing, I am looking forward to many more years with her here on planet earth and for all eternity in heaven!

    Acknowledgments

    I am very grateful to:

Evangelist Tim Lee, Tim Lee Ministries of Garland, Texas, for his kind permission to use his personal testimony or what he refers to as his story.

Angie Anderson for giving the time and effort from her busy schedule as a pastor’s wife in order to type the pages of this book preparing it for publication.

It is with a humble spirit and grateful heart I want to thank Dr. Steve Gaines for his willingness to take time from his hectic schedule and awesome responsibilities as senior pastor of a mega-church such as Bellevue Baptist Church to honor me by writing the foreword for this book.

Jonathan Falwell, who is kind enough to allow me to use his dad’s passages from the Liberty Bible Commentary.

Trey Campbell from Southwestern Advantage for letting me use material from The Wycliffe Bible Commentary.

    Brief Testimony

God was on His Throne on January 13, 2015. All seemed well in the Davis family. Frances was at the nursing home visiting with her aunt Clara, and I was home exercising on our Gazelle. When Frances got home, I told her I felt cold in my chest. No pain, just cold. We had planned to go to Jackson with our son Jimmy. After taking a shower, I was standing by our bed and told Frances I felt cold in my chest again. About the time Frances said we needed to see about it, I passed out on our bed. Frances pulled me off the bed, gave me CPR, and called 911. The ambulance crew said they would airlift me to the hospital we wanted to go to. Frances told them they could probably get me there quicker by ambulance than wait on a helicopter. They told her the helicopter was on the pad waiting for us. When they got me to the emergency room, we understood later the staff thought I had been by myself and might be brain dead. Frances and Jimmy were in the waiting room, and for some unknown reason, the emergency room staff did not ask them what had occurred. We were told later that one doctor said he wasn’t going to consult with a dead man. We were told later that the doctor was fired. Obviously, that doctor did not think about God still being on His Throne, and the Great Physician was in complete control! We understood that some doctor decided to put a stent in my heart. We were told later I was accidentally given ten times the blood thinner I should have been given. They told Frances and Jimmy I probably would not live through that. They removed the ventilator and most of the life support tubing.

On Saturday, I began having respiratory problems and was verging on respiratory arrest. Sunday, the pulmonary doctor told Frances if something wasn’t done, I would go into pulmonary arrest. Frances told him the doctors needed to do something. A consult was made with a heart surgeon, and on Monday, I had open-heart surgery. We understood I arrested at least two or three times during all that took place during this ordeal. Later on, my heart surgeon said he had performed over 10,000 heart surgeries, and I was the second one to survive what I went through. My cardiologist said I had worse than the widow maker, and someone was obviously watching over me!

Later, I was amazed and humbled when I found out all the people who came to the hospital to see me and pray for me and my family. I heard someone say they counted ten preachers there at one time. I was brought back to Savannah and admitted to the swing-bed unit. Some doctors here said they have never seen anything like it in their careers.

Jimmy, our son, asked one doctor about something that was going on with me. He asked him if that was normal. The doctor responds, Normal, there is nothing normal about this. He (speaking of me) is writing a book, and we are learning. While I was in the hospital here, people would also come there to visit with me. One person who came in told me how lucky I was. I quickly pointed up and said, Luck had nothing to do with it! I have tried to thank the doctors for what they did to help in my recovery. However, I let them and many other people know that I was well aware of who was and is, ultimately, in control and in charge!

Let me pause here and make it perfectly clear. Any mention of any human error I may have used in this brief testimony is in no way intended to be critical of any doctors, nurses, or any of the other medical staff members involved in my case. Except the one doctor mentioned earlier concerning the consultation. Also, I am not trying to criticize any hospital that had a part in my recovery. In fact, I don’t believe I could have had a better cardiologist or heart surgeon anywhere in the country. I also don’t believe I could have had any better care at any other hospital or medical caregivers who took care of me. In fact, we have recommended them to several people over the years.

I could proceed by giving more examples of health issues we have dealt with since the issues previously mentioned above. In which the Lord worked miracle after miracle in order for me to still be with my family and friends. He is still on His Throne! Because of that fact, I have the wonderful privilege of penning the words in this book and being able to give Him the glory for what may be accomplished through the writings of the pages of this book!

    To God be the Glory!

    Foreword

When I was young, there was a game show called To Tell the Truth. A select panel interviewed three people, one of whom was the person the other two pretended to be. They asked all three of them questions, seeking to determine which of them was the real person. Two were deceptive; one told the truth.

Our world is a lot like that. Fewer people tell the truth, while more and more engage in falsehoods and untruths. I am a Christian who is a Southern Baptist. One reason I am a Southern Baptist is our doctrinal statement, The Baptist Faith & Message, 2000. It says this about the Bible: It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy.

As Christians, we serve a God of truth. We adhere wholeheartedly to His teachings found in His book of truth, the Bible. In Does God Lie? Dr. Jimmy Davis shares basic Christian truth/doctrine based on the Bible. He deals with fundamental biblical issues such as the Bible, baptism, salvation, sin, heaven, hell, and other truths discussed in Scripture. Regarding all of these, he seeks to share what the Bible says. This book will help you understand the truth of Scripture and will also help you rely on God’s Word as the supreme source of truth in every area of life.

Just before Jesus was crucified, Pilate asked Him, What is truth? (John 18:38). Pilate was staring truth right in the face. But because he was living in sin without salvation and the Spirit of truth wasn’t within him, Pilate could not see that Jesus Himself was the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).

Like Pilate, many today are asking, What is truth? And like Pilate, they’re looking in all the wrong places. To encounter truth, you must look to Jesus and the scriptures. Only then will you find eternal, inerrant, saving truth.

May this book and its amazing truth bless your soul.

    Does God Lie?

    Introduction

Most reasonable individuals, especially those claiming to be Christians, would certainly respond to the question posed by the title of this book with an emphatic no! Many readers may respond by saying, What a strange title for a Christian book. By the beliefs, teachings, and doctrines in our day, espoused by so many professing Christians, it appears they believe that God does not keep His word! So, in essence, without actually saying so, they seem to believe God lies. Many individuals over the years have stated that we, as Baptists, believe a Christian can sin, live any way they want to, and get away with it. Let me respond and make it perfectly clear at the beginning by stating emphatically, That is absolutely untrue! That is certainly not a Baptist doctrine. Anyone making a statement like that obviously has not read and studied the same Bible I read and study. In my opinion and belief, anyone thinking they can sin and get away with it should carefully examine their salvation experience.

I have never particularly liked the term or phrase once saved, always saved because of the way it has been misused and abused over the years. I believe security of the believer, soul security, eternal security, or whatever term you desire to use, is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most precious doctrines recorded in God’s Word. I might also add it is one of the most misunderstood in God’s Word. Unfortunately, multitudes of individuals miss the joy and eternal peace our Lord desires them to experience in their walk with Him. This is due simply to the fact they do not truly trust and believe what He promises in His Word. In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began… (Titus 1:2). It is this author’s desire and hope in my heart that as you read the pages of this book, you will come to the truth that God does not lie! What it boils down to in the final analysis is either a person believes God or they don’t! Let me say without hesitation. He does not lie! It is my heart’s desire that every reader will read these pages with an open heart and mind. So the Lord will be able to reveal this wonderful truth to their heart.

Now, I direct your attention to the Gospel in a nutshell, God’s love letter to mankind, John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. I do not intend to sound unchristian or hateful in what I am about to say. However, I want to be plain, clear, and honest. What is it about everlasting life or eternal life a lot of people do not understand? That is what God promises us when we accept Jesus into our hearts! If you, as a reader, have not settled in your heart and soul the truth, knowledge, and security of your salvation, many of the following pages will be a closed book to you. You will not perceive or understand the intent or conceptual truths revealed in this book.

It is with great anticipation, excitement, and joy that we begin this wonderful journey into the glorious truths concerning the eternal security or keeping of every Christian’s soul. The Lord desires every Christian to experience this joy, peace, and security in his or her walk with Him every day. This security, joy, and peace begins at the time we experience our new spiritual birth and continues throughout eternity! I encourage every reader to pay close attention to my next statement. In order to fully understand the content of this book, you must be completely secure in your salvation experience. You must possess the Know-So Salvation we will discuss in
