Ellipsis - JANAEA GREY
MONSTERS
The Minotaur was born of betrayal, of blood, bone
and incomplete
sacrifices.
Half human, half bull
Yet, the world would only know him as charge.
It would only accept him as red flags waving,
Nostrils flaring, gnashing teeth, and murderous glare
The Minotaur is perceived solely as a Monster.
Yet, nobody ever asked how he felt about that.
No one ever cared to hold him, but if you tried
he would probably use your bones as toothpicks
to dislodge your flesh
He was bull-headed and ravenous
Eventually, when the carnage collected caskets,
They locked him in a maze meant
to keep a beast
He never asked to be born, yet bore the scorn of a disgraced father,
a brainwashed mother
His sharp fangs and claws,
his horrific appearance born of woman
and bull
the punishment for a foolish king
by a cruel god
only eating what he knew
only doing what he was taught
Yet the world made him a monster,
Without offering him a better fate,
I am the Minotaur.
My triggers, 32 pairs of razor-sharp teeth
My heart, a red flag
My pain, a bellow to charge,
My mind, a Labyrinth to which I am confined
after murdering for sustenance and survival
After being given no other options and-
knowing no better
The people have made a monster of me.
a thing born and punished for doing so
a thing cruel and cold
and no one ever asks how you became a monster
They just run for their lives
From your claws
Even if they are outstretched-
begging for
