I was just wondering . . . what does non-sequitur mean? I’ve attempted its denotation in at least five dictionaries, and still . . . NOTHING.

This, sadly, is an actual e-mail I received yesterday. Even more frightening, I get this same question almost on a daily basis. I kept wondering how can people not find it in the dictionary? Has this term, which I always thought was a rather common one, become so obscure in our dumbed-down society that it’s not even in the dictionary anymore? Then it suddenly occured to me what the problem is. They’re looking under s
instead of n.
I try not to think that these people vote, although it does explain how we’ve ended up with the individuals who are in office today.
But at least some of these people made an attempt to educate themselves. The majority of these inquiries come from people who don’t even try
