    CHAPTER 1

    The Red Caped Cat

    Snowball the cat had a problem. All he ever wanted to do was be a superhero. Instead, he was stuck inside the house with his family.

    It was a nice house and a nice family. But still, he was stuck.

    Snowball was playing with his favorite green mouse toy when he heard his brother Alex shouting from the kitchen.

    I want a snack! he said. Alex always wanted a snack.

    It reminded Snowball he wanted a snack, too. He walked in with his striped tail held high and meowed loudly.

    Oh be quiet, Snowball. Alex grabbed a container of cat treats and threw one on the floor.

    You could at least put it on a plate, Snowball thought. But he ate it anyway.

    Alex kept yelling for a snack until his mom walked in. She was a nice, tall lady with curly brown hair and a big smile.

    Here you go, she said and gave Alex a plate of cheese and crackers. What’s Snowball up to? Why don’t you play with him?

    Alex sat down at the kitchen counter and stuffed his face with food. Sorry. Busy.

    Mom sighed. She did that a lot. You wanted a cat and now you don’t even want to play with him.

    I’m sorry, Alex said. Snowball, I’ll play with you when I’m done eating. He had crumbs all over his face and looked ridiculous but Snowball was excited to play.

    They tossed the mouse back and forth and Snowball jumped to catch it with his paws. But Alex had to finish his homework and then it was dinner time. Snowball ate
