Narrated bya cat-loving little girl, this story is a hysterical romp through a family's pet adoption dilemma. Poor Dad does not like cats, and he voices his opposition tothe steady stream of stray cats that always seem to wind up on his doorstep—thanks to a cat-loving Mom who wants to save every stray she finds. In an effort to win Dad over, the little girl hides a tiny straykitten in her hood and convinces Dad to just give it one small squeeze. Dad manages, with trepidation, to stick out his pinkie and pet the creature. But now that five cats have taken over his favorite chair, he becomes desperate andmakes a visit to the pound. Dadreturns happily witha big, fat puppy—everyone gets something that they want. With hilarious ink and watercolor illustrations, this picture book demonstrates the resourcefulness, love, and compromises of a pet-loving family.

I knew I would love David Parkins' drawings, but the words and story were great too! Such a cheerer-up on a dreary day!

This light-hearted story in verse about how Mom manages to convince Dad to adopt multiple cats over his many objections will appeal to young pet lovers. The repetative rhymes give the story a rollicking rhythm, and the pen & ink and watercolor illustrations capture the silliness of the family dynamics. A fun read-aloud for younger elementary students.

This is a cute little repetitive picture book. The illustrations are okay, but nothing special.

What a fantastic book and what a great Dad that reluctantly takes in these misfit kitties....and then.....Oh you have to read the book for the surprise ending.
