    Introduction to Success Is Ele-MENTAL

What does success look like to you? Does it involve developing certain intricate skills? Attaining a prestigious position? Reaching a particular tax bracket? Or perhaps it's about your growth as a person or your personal interactions. Maybe there is a chance that it includes all of the above, at least to some degree.

Whatever the definition may be to you, this book will give you the tools and insight needed to significantly improve your ability to lead with confidence and candor and increase your ability to handle any situation. Success means different things to different people. Although in some respects, I believe we all have common links in our desire to succeed.

A lack of proper leadership appears to have crept into our society. I have personally experienced this in many companies I have worked for, which has shown me the need to bring forth a book such as this. What if you could get what you wanted while helping others simultaneously? You have an abundance of gifts to offer and share with other people. And where you may lack, others have a richness of gifts to provide you with as well.

I have come to realize the need to return to the basics of leadership training. The most difficult problem that we all face, quite possibly, is dealing with the people around us—whether it is within your work setting, traffic, a baseball stadium, or even within your own home! There is always a need to develop the finesse, the compassion, and especially the fine art of getting along with other people in everyday interactions.

In preparation for writing this book, I studied character qualities and read numerous versions regarding each subject. I studied charismatic professionals and not-so-eloquent ones as well! With each topic, I visualized situations relevant to each one and how they could be applied to professional and personal settings. I also extrapolated key findings from my experience in both my professional career and personal encounters. I organized the information in such a way that it will be applicable from numerous perspectives. When applied, these principles and qualities will always prove to be effective, insightful, and life-altering.

Relationships are the most important things in our lives. It is logical to focus a significant amount of time and energy on understanding the nature of people and how our actions affect them. It should be an instinct to show love, kindness, and compassion in every interaction that occurs throughout our days, no matter whom we may come into contact with. Notice I didn't say it would be easy! And just as important as it is to have finesse and charisma in our interactions, we must also display the skills of a leader in the physical actions we perform.

This book is broken down into two parts. In part 1, we explore skills that will refine you as a leader as we look at admirable qualities that will set you apart, illuminate your current skills, and justify your position as a leader. Read or listen to this section with vigor and passion while underlining and highlighting key points you want to either incorporate into your day or improve upon. While it may not be applicable to try these suggestions in every interaction, read and reread or listen and relisten to each section in an attempt to program the information into your mind so you are able to access these files when the opportunity presents itself. Return and refer to these pages often, and even visualize the suggestions playing out in your own setting. Think about it often, and imagine different outcomes each time.

    Ask yourself:

How could I have applied this to my interactions today?

    What mistakes did I make?

How can I do it differently next time?

    Where could I improve?

    What did I do right?

What have I learned from that experience?

Journal your results, whether they are in progress or are already successes. Be sure to enter the dates of each entry and be specific regarding the interaction, how you responded, and what you did or did not like about your interaction. Review your journal at least monthly to monitor your progress and reveal how you are growing in the process.

In part 2, we discuss FIFTY character qualities that are sure to imprint successful traits into your mind's programming. While this is an enormous undertaking, learning about and truly understanding each of these qualities will undoubtedly grow you as a person and launch you as a leader. Perhaps embrace one character quality per week and study it inside and out. Understand what it looks like, the characteristics, and the benefits from the lists provided. Follow up with the three reflection points at the end of each chapter and spend time on each one, first identifying who you know that has the quality already and what it looks like. Then decipher how you will incorporate this quality into both your professional and personal life. Work on each quality for a week at a time. You will begin to notice it being displayed more and more naturally in all your interactions. Ask the same questions as mentioned previously, and journal on all fifty qualities as well. After the last quality has been processed, go back to the beginning!

These methods will allow you to get the most out of this book. Whether in a leadership position in the professional sector, as head of the household, or as a student online or in a homeschooling setting, this book will masterfully remind you of the love, kindness, respect, and compassion we should build into the very nature of our being.

    Let the process begin!

    Part 1

    Skillfully Developed to Lead

    Chapter 1

    The Wellspring of Success

I couldn't wait for success…so I went ahead without it.

    —Jonathon Winters

Written as a sequel, Success Is Ele-MENTAL begins by summarizing some fundamental building blocks from Elevate Your Mind to Success as a foundation for the refinement of pertinent and timeless skills on the ladder of leadership development. Whether you are the head of your own business, a corporation, a household, a church group, an organization, a committee, a club, or a social group, these leadership skills apply to everyone.

    Whose mind is it?

Did you know that your mind has been programmed by thousands of people who are not you? If you have already read my previous book, Elevate Your Mind to Success, you understand in detail all about this programming. Stop and think about the origins of your mind and thoughts. No matter how hard you try, the contents you observe with your senses are generally derived from the information shared by other people. With the magnitude of technology today, there are multiple sources often being used concurrently, such as smartwatches, smartphones, smart TVs, etc. All of these devices are constantly feeding you someone else's information—their viewpoint, their way of thinking, and even how they respond to situations or things.

Your mind is a collection of thoughts accumulated since the day you were born. You have observed and absorbed memories, words, sounds, experiences, etc., since your first breath, and all of this information is filed in compartments in your brain. This data input initially began with your parents or guardians, other family members, friends, teachers, news, media, and so on. Even as you continue to educate yourself, you are still filling your mind with information someone else is telling you from someone else's sources, as you have not personally experienced or witnessed the events yourself. All this information forms thoughts in your mind, leading to how you feel.

When situations or events happen to you each day, you respond to them based on your feelings from your preprogrammed mind. So essentially, when you respond to an event, your mind already knows how it will react, and you do not even have to think about it. Therefore, it is imperative that you focus a deliberate amount of time on your mind and retrain it with a new program that aligns with how you want it to respond—in other words, with information to instinctively respond in the way that you think is favorable and productive.

It is time to start thinking for yourself and questioning where information comes from, then consider its validity. Do your own research and analysis, then derive your own conclusion, not conforming to outside influence or mass assumptions. Stand out and be the unique individual and freethinking person you are meant to be.

It's all about reprogramming our minds to focus more on what brings us joy.

    —Alaric Hutchinson

When you evaluate, it allows you to assess your current programming and determine your re-programming.

    —Natalie Grace Smith

Once you clear your mind clutter out, the doorways for what you desire are open.

    —Stephen Richards

Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change along with it.

    —Steve Maraboli

Once you know what you didn't know you didn't know, you will finally be able to flourish and grow.

    —Jill Fandrich

    Your belief system

A belief is something you accept as true. It is how you view the world and is not necessarily correct or incorrect. Many different factors influence the development of this system, including your upbringing, surrounding environment, knowledge sources, etc. Your beliefs will determine how you make decisions and the type of decisions you make, as they are your perception of the way things are and what you believe to be true.

Beliefs are created both consciously and subconsciously and are a map of your inner and outer world. Fortunately, a belief system is changeable. And it is important to review and update your beliefs often to ensure they are aligned with your values and support you in the way you want to go. You can change any desired behavior, thought pattern, or emotional state you wish. The first step to making changes is awareness of your preprogramming.

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

    —Proverbs 23:7 NKJV

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

    —John 8:32 NIV

Your belief system is very important, because the position of your heart is determined by what you believe.

    —Justice Kojo Bentil

When we end up losing our frame in a discussion, it is typically due to a weak belief system.

    —Josh King Madrid

Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.

    —Proverbs 4:23 NCV

    Your core values

Along with your beliefs, it is important that you clearly identify your core values. This ultimately helps you determine how you will operate your day-to-day life and respond to situations and surroundings. In order to make informed decisions, you must first figure out what truly matters to you. Simply put, if you have defined your personal and professional values, you will most likely enter into interactions where you align with your beliefs and goals. And if a time comes when you are not, you will know something is unbalanced and will be able to use your programming as a guide to adjust the situation, using your internal compass.

With defined values, you are able to filter out everything that does not align with who you are. This provides a greater sense of confidence in selecting your choices and making decisions in both personal and professional situations. Have the courage to make changes if your current circumstances do not align with your values. As you reprogram your mind and are aware of your own uninfluenced thoughts, intertwine your values so deeply and completely that they automatically pair together. Eventually, there will be a peaceful flow of positive energy as you work to align all areas of your life with your core values and live with intention rather than random descent.

If you don't stick to your values when they're being tested, they're not values; they're hobbies.

    —Jon Stewart

My definition of success: when your core values and self-concept are in harmony with your daily actions and behaviors.

    —John Spence

It's very important for people to know themselves and understand what their value system is, because if you don't know what your value system is, then you don't know what risks are worth taking, and which ones are worth avoiding.

    —Benjamin Carson

When your core values are preprogrammed to be automatic responses, you have already reached an unprecedented level of success.

    —Jill Fandrich

    Mindfully energized

God is energy, and all energy has vibrations. Everything contains energy, including all of your cells. You have the ability to choose what type of energy, positive or negative, you allow to dwell within you. Your mind consists of energy that is in constant motion. If it is programmed to default to negativity, your fruit will align with a pessimistic and constraining environment. But if you capture these thoughts, acknowledge that they are there and are harmful to your well-being, then replace them with an empowering substitute, the cells in your body become favorably energized. You have been given the power to positively impact the people that surround you. Your energy is infectious, whether positive or negative, so make certain you choose the enlightened path.

Your mind and your feelings are simultaneously interconnected. For example, you cannot feel joy when thinking about the destruction resulting from a natural disaster or feel sorrow as you grasp the tiny fingers of a precious newborn baby. You vibrate on either a high, medium, or low level, depending on your emotions and mental state of being. Therefore, your low, medium, or high vibrational thoughts and feelings may influence the outlook of your day and how you process it.

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

    —Colossians 3:2 ESV

If you decide on your direction, God will give you the energy for the distance.

    —T.B. Joshua

Be the most passionate person in the room. Your energy and vibe will lift others as well.

    —Hiral Nagda

When you fix your thoughts on God, God fixes your thoughts.

    —Anonymous

    Energy efficient

You have the same amount of energy today as you did on the day you were born! Energy doesn't disappear. Conservation of energy is a principle that states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. But it can be transformed. Energy is constantly changing, altering size, shape, and frequency.

There is a direct correlation between your negative energy and undesirable or unnecessarily difficult results. It is within your power to choose a focused and uplifted mindset. Because of and through Christ, Who gives you strength, you are in control of your level of success, and you must choose where you want to take it. This positive frame of mind will lead you down exciting and fruitful paths you only ever imagined possible.

When you are at peace with your inner world, your outer world is a reflection of it. You are able to see difficulties and obstacles as opportunities and possibilities. You remain calm, tranquil, and content even amid adversity. As you reprogram your inner world to have faith, confidence, and a gentleness about it, this calmness opens your mind to more possible solutions that a tense and worrisome mind would repress. It is necessary to know when to let go and let God. Learn from past experiences yet refuse to dwell on any negative aspects of them.

Your inner thoughts aren't truly hidden. Their essence reflects in your energy. Energy speaks what you don't.

    —Drishti Bablani

We can be tired, weary and emotionally distraught, but after spending time alone with God, we find that He injects into our bodies energy, power and strength.

    —Charles Stanley

It's a funny thing about life; once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.

    —Germany Kent

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

    —2 Corinthians 4:16–18 NIV

    Negative energy

You are always in a state of emitting and receiving energy from the things that surround you. Every person, animal, and thing in the universe contains energy, whether positive or negative. Negative energy may lead to poor sleep, declining health, feelings of anxiety or depression, fatigue, or restlessness, among other unfavorable factors. You may lack the desire or motivation to do things you normally find pleasurable. Other people with negative energy may drain your energy as well. This negative energy may be derived from a cluttered or disorganized environment, critical self-talk, or the preprogramming of negative thoughts and memories from your past experiences. Negative energy may even cause harmful health ailments such as headaches, migraines, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

Negative energy may be spread from person to person in the form of jealousy, pride, gossip, bitterness or hatred, or other negative vibes. It is important to protect yourself from these contagious and harmful influences of energy. Being in the presence
