Spectrum III: A Poetry Journal
()
About this ebook
My poems come from the heart without much ado. I seldom edit or stress over them. They are spontaneous and written in the early morning when I relax, write and ponder life. They are an impression of feelings on many subjects spurred by my personal love of a world free from societal expectations, war, pain and suffering. These poems cover nature, love, family, introspection, protest, common journeys of all peoples and the possibility of peace and rebirth on this planet and beyond.
I am particularly interested in working with young people who begin the creative world of marks on paper, scribblings, drawings and writings at a very young age. They are a voice to be heard. Storytelling and rhymes are symbolic language from early times passed by word of mouth through elders and succeeding generations.
I have connected with small groups of poets in coffee shops, on the street corners, in fairs, in family gatherings, weddings, passings, all speaking poetry as they experience it. They are my second community, my poet friends whom I join in person or online. These poems are written between 2014 and 2023. They belong to a trilogy of poetry books entitled: Spectrum, A Poetry Memoir; Spectrum II, A Poetry R-evolution; and this book, Poetry III, A Poetry Journal.

Rachel Wright
Rachel Wright is a “never retired” educator. She lives in an intentional community in southern Indiana established by her father and friends in 1966. She was an active part of the founding of an alternative school which continues to this day. She was also a professor of education in a local community college for ten years. She has published in magazines and academic journals both in education and the study of intentional communities. As archivist and publisher of the community, she preserves and shares their history, stories and works. Her passions include family, midwifery, childcare, alternative education, and fostering creativity and originality in poetry and the arts. She bakes artisan bread (a sour dough advocate), makes wine, paints, writes poetry and humorous short stories and attends workshops in these areas. She has six children and is grandmother to an ever-expanding group of 15 plus. She is an active member of the Indiana Poetry Society since 2019 and is involved in other local art and poetry groups. She is available for workshops within her PoART enterprise and hopes to expand a platform for other poets around Indiana and elsewhere.

28363.pngwa.png Oh Moon
Oh moon
I gaze upon your beauty in the dawn of the morning
Clouds wisping along your horizon
Reflection in the black water below
I think of all the myths and stories of ages past
of your strength, power and might
Ruler of the night, rival of the sun
My pagan heart indulges in the mysteries
and I wonder of your allure
Am I compelled to be as the fog dancers on the lake
who bow and stoop to your presence?
Do you bring out my wild child
on the dark side of my nature?
Can I blame you for my problems?
What do I know?
For now I will gaze upon your golden light
feed the artist within my soul
and watch as night turns to day
I keep looking out the window
I open the door
No barriers stand between us
The air takes my breath
as we stand face to face
I realize you are leaving soon
I must give you passage to the other side
I watch as the sun rises and passes you by
You slip silently out of my sight
wa.png Oh Sun
Has the sun given up?
Retired to her comfort bed in the billowing clouds
When is she coming to separate darkness from light?
The flickering moon on the water stays forever
even in slivers and slices
Where is she?
I wait, gather all the patience I can find
as the past and future tug at my Skirt
wanting me to spend those hours
with despair, misery and travail as my companions
I turn my attention to the books by my side
Sip my black panacea in my favorite cup
I can wait.
The blue book of mysteries draws my gaze
splattered with dark water spots
scribbles, underlines, highlights
as I search for the truth behind what the writer meant
not the empty printed words before
