As this book is written, each news cycle exposes more allegations of illegitimately acquired wealth. Each day, I find myself racing to update the manuscript to keep up with the latest allegations of corruption.

(That’s one reason this work is published as an e-book. In the often unbearably long period between when the author puts down his pen and the reader can pick up the book, new developments—specifically new Biden scandals—make yesterday’s manuscript obsolete. But with an e-book, one can try at least to keep up even with the dizzying pace of charges of Biden’s misconduct.)

As the 2024 elections approach, President Biden’s alleged corruption and that of his family are emerging as key issues.

But while the investigations and media reports home in on Biden’s corruption and try to pin down how much he got from who and when, a key element is missing: even as we learn about the vast amount of money China gave Biden, we know little of what China got in return.

The other end of the Biden-China quid pro quo is usually disguised as public policy, unconnected to any payments the Bidens received.

This book is in three parts. In part 1, I do my best to keep up with the mounting proof of what Biden got from China. In part 2, I discuss the Bidens’ world tour for financial gain. In part 3, I probe the other side of the equation: What did China get from Biden?

• Did the money the Bidens got from China play a role in the administration’s passivity in the face of Beijing’s refusal to cooperate in the investigation of the origin of the COVID-19 virus?

• Is Biden’s failure to get China to curb its carbon emissions while the rest of the world must starve itself of energy part of a policy that may have its roots in the president’s financial dependency on the mandarins in Beijing?

• Is the president’s passivity while China leads a global assault on the dollar connected to Hunter Biden’s relationship with his financial benefactor in China?

• As China steals American technology, company by company, why does Biden do nothing to stop Beijing from requiring US firms to give up their trade secrets as the price of admission to China? And why does he do so little to stop industrial espionage directed by Beijing?

• Why did Biden allow Meng Wanzhou’s release from prison? She is the daughter of the founder of Huawei, the company that has led the way in converting 5G cell phones into instruments used to spy on private citizens to enforce compliance with Beijing’s orders.

• As Biden pushes for solar batteries and electric cars, both totally dependent on rare earth minerals, why does he do so little to break China’s virtual monopoly on these crucial chips on which our future depends?

• Why is Biden so unconcerned about how China is developing a global economic empire by getting corrupt governments in third-world countries to borrow funds for infrastructure through its heralded Belt and Road Initiative? When the third-world dictators borrow the money, pocketing it or sequestering it in their Swiss bank accounts, China is only too eager to seize rare earth mineral assets that had been posted as collateral for the loans.

• Why does Biden let China get away with violating its obligations under the World Trade Organization (WTO) by undervaluing its currency and subsidizing its exports? Why won’t Biden retaliate? We can’t prove that China’s seeming hold over Biden is due to its largesse to his family, but it does raise questions.

Three countries in the post–World War II era—Germany, Japan, and China—made it from the bottom to near the top of the global economic pecking order, but each used a totally different strategy. Germany recovered after its total defeat in the war through the Marshall Plan and massive American aid. Facing the threat of Russian communism, the US felt a sense of urgency about restoring the German economy to its prewar heights. And American policymakers, mindful of how economic humiliation had fueled Hitler’s rise, were determined to stop postwar Germany from following the same path.

Japan’s path was different as it recovered from the war. Denied the staggering amount of American aid that lifted Germany and Europe, Japan pulled itself up by ingenious research and development. As the world moved ahead with electronics, Japan focused on the miniaturization of technology. Encouraged by America’s open markets, Japan became an export juggernaut and vaulted its way to recovery.

But China grew by means of bribery. Spending almost nothing on research and development, it purloined advanced technology from the West, particularly the United States. And what it couldn’t steal it paid for through bribes. Bribery became an art form in modern China. The Chinese saw it as their only way to pull even with—and, if possible, ahead of—the United States.

After centuries under increasingly insular, incompetent, and corrupt emperors, China was first exposed to the West as the twentieth century began. But it led to what the Chinese call a century of humiliation. This great and proud people, who had invented gunpowder, were enfeebled and weak and fell under
