Author

Anthony Talmage

In his career as a BBC journalist and broadcaster and a national and regional journalist, Anthony Talmage had written his fair share of stories about The Unexplained, which is what prompted him to develop his interest in the paranormal. It led him to membership of the widely-respected Society for Psychical Research, and the British Society of Dowsers where he learned the art of divining. After establishing the Guernsey Society of Dowsers, he went on to focus his dowsing skills on the areas of Health and Subtle Energies. He later taught dowsing at the Guernsey College of Further Education and he still runs workshops on both dowsing and energy healing. Through all his many years of researching the metaphysical, esoteric, mystical, occult, paranormal, the Mysterious and Things That Go Bump in the Night Anthony came to the conclusion that The Unconscious Mind is the one factor common to them all. Which, he believes, means that everyone has access to psychic or so-called paranormal powers. This is now his mission – to encourage everyone to use their sixth sense to fulfil their potential.

    FOREWORD

This book is the fourth in a series celebrating the ability of the human Mind to transcend the restrictions imposed by conventional science.  My first three books Dowse Your Way To Psychic Power, In Tune With The Infinite Mind and Unlock The Psychic Powers Of Your Unconscious Mind explore ways in which ordinary people can become extraordinary people. How to Crack the Cosmic Code goes a step further, not only exploring how each of us has within us the tools to link with the Akashic Field and achieve the magical and miraculous, but also sets out the case for and against continuation of our consciousness at the end of our earthly life.  Each of us is unique and each of us is needed by the Universe to fulfil a special mission.  We live in a wonderful world, full of mysteries.  My aim with this book, as with my previous, is to show you how to partner with the Cosmic Consciousness and convince you why you are so important to the future of the planet.

    PREFACE

You are at the centre of the Universe because your mind is. The human mind is such a powerful tool that it can take us on journeys to infinity and back, visiting other dimensions along the way. It is a portal to a wonderland of infinite possibilities. I know this sounds overblown when most of us just want to get by in this world and get through life with as little pain as possible. But I’ve got news for you: you’re capable of much more than just surviving.

You are connected to everything in the Cosmos and you have at your fingertips a range of resources which you can tap into if you know how. What are those resources? That’s what this book is about so don’t rush me.  First, it’s essential to put you in the picture.  To do so I’d like to bring in a few people who’ve boldly gone where no man has gone before (so to speak) and revealed to us why we are so special. And it’s all to do with consciousness. This ordinary word hides the most extraordinary power in the Universe. Until these pioneers came along everyone more or less accepted that humans were just machines, going about their business in separate bubbles, from cradle to grave surviving as best they could, leaving children and grandchildren to do the same.

Not many gave much thought to what life was all about – to most it was just a matter of survival, grabbing along the way whatever pleasures and happiness was possible within their limited horizons. But a few people raised their eyes to the heavens and began to see things differently. Gradually, a consensus among a minority took shape and we - you and me - are now going to explore that consensus which teaches us that we are not just hapless victims of a capricious fate but gods, connected to everything that was, is and ever will be.

Even in the 21st Century, when humankind has performed so many miracles in science, medicine and technology, one mystery they have not been able to crack is that of consciousness.  A majority still believe that whatever consciousness is, it’s a product of the brain and ceases to function once the brain is dead. While the brain and the mind are closely linked, they are not the same thing. The brain is a physical organ that processes information and controls bodily functions, while the mind is the subjective experience of consciousness. The distinction between the brain and the mind has important implications for how we understand consciousness and the nature of reality.

A growing number of thinkers are leaning towards the view espoused by our pioneers and agree that consciousness is SEPARATE from the brain and has the capability of roaming the Universe engaging with its wonders.

If you want to gain insights into your life, purpose, and the world around you, just tap into the Cosmic Consciousness.  But before we get to the practicalities of how, let’s look a bit closer at the Universe in which we live and which some believe is just a mechanical set of galaxies, stars and planets behaving like clockwork billiard balls. While others, like me (and hopefully you), would rather regard the Universe as one, infinite, living consciousness of which we are part. After the introduction, below, I will introduce some trailblazers who believe the same and beat a path before us and are inviting us to follow.

    INTRODUCTION

Did you by any chance see the 2004 film What the Bleep Do We Know!? It swept through the global alternative community who loved its proposition that there’s a spiritual connection between the realms of quantum physics and consciousness, backing up this contention with inspiring visual effects, story-telling and interviews with scientists and theologians.

The narrative follows a fictional photographer, Amanda, through her emotional and existential journey. Her perceptions of reality are challenged and she begins to realise how the material world is impacted by the consciousness of individuals and groups and the screenplay thrusts the viewer into a world where science and spirituality intersect.

While kindred spirits like us found it an exciting development of ideas that we were already familiar with, predictably there was a backlash from the scientific and religious ‘Establishment’ who vociferously rejected the notion that the Universe could be constructed from thoughts and ideas rather than from matter.

Years later the film’s producer/director William Arntz was unrepentant and reflected in a New Science Media interview how his world view had remained faithful to the beliefs his film espoused:

‘If I ruled the world what would I like the major ‘debate’ to be for our times? Whether or not to recycle? What should we do about global warming? Is stem cell research the future? No. The real debate should be about something that seems very simple and incredibly basic.  Is there a non-physical Reality?

‘Another way to ask the question is: Do things exist that are not perceived by our five senses or the mechanical extensions we have created to augment them?  Since the ascendancy of science around Newton’s time, and the success of the Industrial Revolution, the notion of anything non-physical being real has been relegated to the world of dreamers, religious fanatics, and charlatans.

‘While the triumphs of science have been earthshaking, it seems to me this narrow view is a replay of the arrogance that once proclaimed, We are the center of the Universe. The only difference is now we are saying, There is no reality beyond what we humans glimpse through the windows of our sense perceptions. We have limited the entire Universe within the confines of what we can see, hear, taste, touch and smell.

‘Having created the What the BLEEP movies and gotten a very adverse reaction from the mainstream media, as well as the societal and scientific realms, it seems that putting forward the hypothesis that there is more to the Universe than meets the eye is like bringing up religion or politics at a dinner party – a very bad idea!

‘ The scientific community is, by and large, antithetical to extending the quantum viewpoint to ordinary life. Yet the scientific method - the very backbone of science - is beginning to be applied to do just that, bring light to this subject and expose cracks in the edifice of scientific materialism. Applying the scientific method, studies now show that for instance: praying for someone can statistically increase the chance of healing; focused human intention can affect quantum events in a way that is considered impossible; and information embedded at the Planck Scale may be the background carrier of reality that transcends time, space, and the physical senses.

‘The mainstream scientific world does its best to ignore the ramifications of these discoveries. And yet the true glory of science is that it does move itself forward. Early discoveries and theories of quantum mechanics were so preposterously wild few scientists could accept them as true. But despite the impossibility of their discoveries, the evidence eventually was overwhelming, and a radical new way of addressing the physical Universe came into being.

‘The new reality is already here. There is evidence, at times overwhelming, that our physical world is just the tip of the iceberg, and that the Universe is vaster than currently imagined. The scientists presented in the film, using the tried and true methods of rigorous experimental inquiry, are pointing out the limitations of a strictly materialistic worldview, and ultimately re-introducing consciousness into the Universe.

‘In the past, science struggled to keep the scientist out of experiments in some idealised state of separation. Now quantum physics and the Observer Effect keep shoving the experimenter – the human being - back into the picture. For centuries, the inner experience of ourselves has been segregated from what is considered reality. Even our most ever-present perception – that fact that we exist – has been relegated to the world of fancy or, as some neurologists will have it, to the realm of epiphenomena.’

Arntz concludes by saying those open-minded and courageous maverick scientists, who oppose the settled view that consciousness is just an unexpected by-product of brain cell function and who seek to bridge the inner and the outer, are the true explorers of the 21st century.

The human Mind is like a computer terminal plugged into a giant database – Dr David Hawkins

1 THEY CAME, THEY SAW, THEY CONCURRED

Let’s start with some titans from different disciplines but all of whom believe in the power of the human mind to achieve the mystical and miraculous: Dr David Hawkins, who died in 2012, was a celebrated psychiatrist, spiritual teacher and author. He is best known for his work on consciousness and spirituality, and the development of his unique ‘Map of Consciousness’ (more later)

If we compare our brains with a computer terminal, we can see how his analogy (above) makes sense. What’s in our heads allows us to interact with the world around us, just like a computer terminal allows us to interact with the Internet. We can think, reason, and make decisions based on the information we receive through our senses. But there’s another dimension to our interactions, this time involving our mystical, indefinable ‘mind.’

Dr Hawkins’s ‘giant database’ is the collective consciousness of humanity - the sum total of all the knowledge, wisdom, and experiences of all human beings throughout history. A sort of living celestial library which includes everything from scientific discoveries to works of art to religious and spiritual teachings.

But there are others who take this concept even further believing it’s not just a library but rather a Cosmic information field that connects everything in the Universe and contains all the knowledge, wisdom, and experiences of the past, present, and future. In the religion of theosophy and the philosophical school called anthroposophy this field is termed The Akashic Record.

Our consciousness (which even today scientists can’t understand) acts as a bridge to the Akashic Field allowing us through meditation, visualisation, or deep introspection, to gain insights into our lives, our purpose, and the world around us. The Akashic Field is not bound by time and space, and thus it gives us a glimpse into the interconnectedness of all things.

It also permits us to transcend the physical realm and tap into paranormal abilities like telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, and psychokinesis. Telepathy is the ability to communicate with others using only thoughts, clairvoyance allows us to see beyond the physical realm and gain information about events or people, precognition is to perceive events that have not yet happened, and psychokinesis being able to move objects with the power of the mind.

Back to Dr Hawkins. He believed we all have the power to change the world. By raising our own consciousness, we can help others to do the same. This, he was convinced, would lead to a more peaceful and harmonious planet. He was another believer in the interconnectedness of all things. He said, ‘All that we perceive is interconnected, and the divisions that we create in our minds are arbitrary.’ This idea is reflected in his work on his Map of Consciousness, which I mentioned earlier.  This codifies grades of failure or achievement reachable by the human mind from 0-100. For instance shame (20), guilt (30), courage (200), enlightenment (1000) and levels in between.

I know we’ve only just started but I hope you are beginning to see that our minds are a portal to a wonderland of infinite possibilities. They connect us to the Akashic Field, paranormal abilities, the collective unconscious, and the power to shape not
