    Murder!  Murder!  Read all about it!  Three fresh murders!

    The paper boy stood on the cobblestone corner, a large stack of newspapers under one arm, the other raised in the air, waving around a single copy.

    Murder!  Murder!  Read all about it! the boy shouted once more.  Scotland Yard finds no clues!  Read all about it!

    What is the world coming to these days? William muttered, his walking stick moving in brisk motion with his feet, tapping the sidewalk every few seconds.

    Drawing closer, William caught a glimpse of the newspaper in the boy’s hand and scanned the visible half of the front page: leave it to the London press to place a murder headline on page one, just above the announcement of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.  Apparently, murders now took precedent over the affairs of her Majesty and empire.

    Still, one had to keep up with current events of all stripes.

    Henry, my dear boy, I’ll take of those, William said, pulling a coin from his black overcoat and flicking it several feet through the air.

    The paperboy caught the coin and smiled.

    Afternoon, Mr. Grayson, how are you today, sir?

    The boy tipped his cap in greeting before handing William a paper.

    Very well, Henry.  Very well, thank you.  What have we got today?

    William took another look at the front headline then glanced at the boy.
