    Spiritual Bootcamp - Brad Windlan

    CHAPTER ONE

THERE IS A TIME TO ENLIST!

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.  (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NIV)

Have you enlisted in the Lord's army?  Every new soldier embarks on a transformative journey, walking through a five-step enlistment process as they transition from their civilian life into the noble ranks of the King's army.

STEP ONE: BELIEF—To believe means to wholeheartedly trust in, cling to, and rely upon someone or something. As new soldiers in the Lord's Army, we are called to place unwavering faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Let us marvel at the truth that He, who is in very nature God, humbled Himself to take on the form of a servant, to walk among us as a man. Through His obedience, even unto death on a cross, He triumphed over sin and death. The exalted name of Jesus reigns supreme, and every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:6-11, NIV)

STEP TWO: REPENTANCE—Every soldier in the Lord's Army understands the call to separate themselves from the entanglements of this world. Like a soldier fully committed to pleasing their commanding officer, we must embrace the fundamental step of repentance. Repentance compels us to make a radical U-turn, relinquishing our allegiance to the ways of the world and to our past lives characterized by rebellion and sin. Simultaneously, we pledge our allegiance to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. His will becomes our utmost delight to obey.  Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. (Acts 3:19, NIV)

STEP THREE: FAITH—As Kingdom Soldiers, our lives are rooted in unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ. The Lord's sovereignty ensures the fulfillment of His purposes, whether or not we align ourselves with His plans. Yet, if we yearn to personally encounter His boundless grace and participate in His redemptive work of reconciliation and restoration, we must anchor our entire beings in Him. Faith transcends mere sentimental belief; it manifests as genuine trust in Christ's character, power, holiness, and unchanging faithfulness. A Kingdom Soldier's obedience knows no bounds because we wholeheartedly trust Jesus as our Savior, Lord, and King—the eternal Son of God deserving all glory, honor, and praise, amen! The righteous shall live by faith." (Romans 1:17, NIV)

STEP FOUR: CONFESSION—At its core, to confess is to agree with God.  When we confess our sinfulness, we are agreeing with God about our rebellion against His holiness.  When we confess Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God and our Lord and Savior, we are acknowledging (agreeing with God) that Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be.  Paul, in Romans 10:9-10 (NRSV) beautifully captures the significance of confession: "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart, leading to righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, leading to
