The Seaside Village and The Curious Blizzard - Jason Glenn Kevens
Chapter 1
On a mist covered coastline resided an interesting seaside village. The nearest towns were quite a distance from this isolated location. It was a calm and comfortable community to live in. The name of this unique village was Port New Fathom.
It was nestled into the winding rocky shoreline. Some of the houses in the village were brightly painted. During clear days they would catch the light and gleam in the sunshine. On days when the ocean mist and lingering fog would cover the village. The once vibrant hues would now look dull and subdued. Many visitors thought that it was only a simple peaceful village. They never stayed long enough to experience some of the unusual events that took place. There were mysterious stories that had been passed down over the years.
The seasonal weather changes that impacted the village created a rhythm to its life. Every now and then the villagers talked about the curious storms. This was the subtle way Port New Fathom residents described storms that were unique. Most of the storms talked about included powerful, damaging and out of the ordinary types. The strange impacts of these profound storms were rarely talked about in public. These events became tales to be told around campfires.
Except for these rare storms the village was like many others around the world. Of course, all ocean related business activities were the economic foundation for Port New Fathom. It also had tourists who visited through the summer and into the fall season. Some of the tourists liked visiting for a late summer vacation. Others visited for the great natural show of the golden and red autumn foliage. The forests looked like they were painted in fiery shades. One last blaze of color before the cold and ice arrived.
The main street was where most businesses were located in Port New Fathom. A mix of stores for everyday needs and seasonal shops for the tourists. There were a few bed and breakfasts along with a small hotel slightly outside the village boundaries. A gas station with an automotive garage for repairing vehicles. The grocery store supplied most of the food
