Perhaps this wasn’t such a good idea after all. I’m soaked to the skin and I think my toes have grown webs. “I feel like an old wet sponge,” I shouted in the rain and wind – but the grin on my face belied this statement.

Standing above Hive Beach in Dorset, the rain soaking me and the wind taking away my words as they were spoken – with no chance of hearing my husband Ro’s reply due to my coat hood shrouding my ears – I felt perversely happy.

I’m not sure Ro felt quite the same, mind you, as he stood with his back to the sea attempting to read the OS map on his phone, the screen obliterated by rainwater dripping off his own hood. “Let’s leave West Bay until tomorrow: enough is enough for one day,” he announced.
