ALEX
Ablaring beeping sounded in Alex’s ear. He threw a hand on his phone to silence it and looked at the curved figure beside him, still fast asleep in the gray morning light. The sheet had fallen off of her, and her silk nightgown had ridden up to reveal the delicious curve of her ass.
Fuck my life.
Alex took a deep breath and convinced his dick to pay less attention to the sultry, warm, gorgeous woman beside him.
It was Day 157 of sleeping next to the one woman Alex couldn’t have: his FBI undercover partner, Brynn.
Inside the house, they were nothing more than coworkers who slept in the same bed. He glanced at the cameras that were always on throughout the house. Fraternization was entirely off limits, despite their cover identities of being newlyweds.
Outside the house? They were lovestruck newlyweds who had just moved to the small town of Wellington, Massachusetts, conveniently living next to an alleged kingpin money launderer.
Goosebumps covered Brynn’s arms as she lay fast asleep, curled up in a ball. Alex grabbed the blankets they shared and covered her, tucking her in so she’d stay warm in the November morning.
He longed to run his fingers along her delicate jaw. Move her long hair out of the way so he could kiss her neck. Run his nose along her shoulder and move his mouth down to her curved, firm breasts. The feel of her tits pressing against his chest haunted his memory from when he’d hugged her goodbye in the driveway as her dutiful (fake) husband.
He tried to find a reason to kiss her when they were outside the house, away from the cameras. Brynn always responded to it, but they’d never talked about it. Never let themselves get caught up in the moment. The stakes were too high, and they couldn’t afford to get distracted.
He moved silently out of bed, cat-like, so as not to wake her. She had a hard time falling asleep, and they’d need every ounce of strength for today’s mission: getting in good with Peter Petrov, the piece of shit money launderer.
BRYNN
Brynn woke with a stretch and heard the shower shut off.
Good. Maybe I’ll get a show this morning. Alex usually woke and showered first, but about half the time, he forgot to bring his clothes into the bathroom.
She wondered if it was her lucky morning.
She snuggled back under the covers, pretending to be asleep. Her favorite way to start the day was seeing his dripping chest, biceps, and abs from under nearly closed eyelids. Imagining what he might feel like, all damp and warm from the shower. She cursed the security cameras hidden throughout their house, preventing them from trying anything physical.
A muffled ‘Shit’ came from the bathroom and her eyebrows quirked with awareness.
He didn’t usually make a big deal when he forgot to grab his clothes.
The bathroom door opened slowly. Alex peeked his head out and glanced her way. She must have sold the fact that she was sleeping because he walked out with nothing more than a washcloth covering himself.
Brynn took a quick breath at the sight of him and sighed slowly, pretending she was still asleep. He usually came out with a long towel around his waist.
Which is still in the dryer downstairs, she realized.
Oops.
Or not so oops, she thought as he stalked across the room, glistening and naked.
He had powerful, thick thighs burnished in a golden tan like the rest of him. She got a glimpse of his round, perfectly sculpted behind as he breezed by, but she lost him out of the corner of her eye. Damn. Maybe if she leaned back on the pillow, he wouldn’t notice her staring.
Brynn gently moved onto her back, fully aware she was in pervert mode. It’s been a long six months, okay? She angled her head and opened her eyes just enough to see him staring at her in the mirror.
Fuck. Caught in the act.
He had the audacity to wink at her, smirk, and carry his underwear to their walk-in closet, shielding all his delicious parts from her eyes. The door handle closed with a cacophonous click.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
Brynn’s hands came up to cover her face as she went beet red. She’d never hear the end of this. She jumped in the shower to avoid him.
Thirty minutes later she came downstairs, ready for the day.
Next time I’ll charge admission,
Alex said as he poured a cup of coffee into his mug, biting back a smile.
Don’t flatter yourself.
She grabbed the fridge handle and yanked it open. Heat burned at her cheeks. I was just waking up and accidentally caught an eyeful.
I bet that’s why the towels are still in the dryer. This was your long con to see me naked before we’re done.
"Oh, yes. I’m working the most important job of my life, yet I still find time to strategize how to see the office
