Before we begin, let us get you familiarized with the terminologies that are used in this book.
Wing Chun is a martial art that originated in southern China in the late 17th century. It was developed by a Buddhist nun named Ng Mui, who is said to have created the system to help a young woman defend herself against a stronger male attacker. Over time, the system was passed down through a series of teachers and students, eventually reaching the legendary Ip Man, who helped to popularize Wing Chun around the world.
Ip Man was born in Foshan, Guangdong, China, in 1893. He began studying Wing Chun under the tutelage of Chan Wah-shun at the age of 13. Ip Man continued to practice and refine his skills throughout his life, and he eventually became one of the most respected Wing Chun practitioners in the world.
Despite his expertise, Ip Man lived a relatively quiet life until the 1950s, when he began teaching Wing Chun to a group of students in Hong Kong. Among his students were several well-known martial artists, including Bruce Lee, who
