In 2020, there was a massive upward spike in surprise attacks on Asian Americans, Jewish Americans, and unsuspecting victims in general. The next year, criminals became even more brazen with enormous increases in smash-and-grabs and follow-home robberies, driving the murder and violent crime rate to record highs not seen in years.
And if the early months of 2022 have been any indication, this trend isn’t going to end any time soon.
That’s why we’ve asked three self protection experts to provide their unique takes on how everyday folks can survive and even avoid a surprise street attack.
First up is Tony Blauer, the preeminent instructor of reality-based combatives for the past four decades. He founded the SPEAR System, created the High Gear suit for full-contact defensive tactics training, and has been world renowned for incorporating fear and physiology into self-defense training.
Next is Hakim Isler, a U.S. Army combat vet who specialized in psychological operations and is a wilderness survival expert, appearing in TV shows like Naked and Afraid. Oh, and the “Black MyGyver” (as he calls himself) is a ninja — literally. He’s an instructor in various styles of martial arts, including ninjutsu.
